Dec. 9 - 10 : Alg. 1 SOL Testing

Testing days will be Wednesday (12/9) and Thursday (12/10), with approximately 60 students testing each day. Sent via email are student testing lists. The lists are sorted by Block 1 teacher so that it is easy to identify if you need to send students in the morning. Just look for your name and which students to send. If your name is not on the list, you are off the hook for that morning.

If you do have any students in your first block, send them to the cafeteria at 8:50.

Please make sure to check the lists for students that might be in your later blocks. The Alg I SOL usually takes students three to four hours on average, so students will miss multiple classes. Students will return to class when finished with a pass from testing.

Dec. 7-11: Minnie Howard Book Fair

Our library is hosting our annual Scholastic Book Fair on next week. Our book fair hours will generally be
9:00 a.m. - 4:00p.m. We will have exciting activities and programs in the library:

The TIS team will sponsor a Hour of Code program on December 8-9 in the library.
The event is scheduled both days 10-11 a.m. & 2:00-3:00 p.m. (book fair will be closed during this time)

Scholastic is paying for an author to visit our school during book fair week. "New York Times" Best Selling
author April Henry will provide a presentation on Friday, Dec. 11 from 10:15 - 11:15 a.m. which will include a book signing afterwards. We will also have an author's chat in the library during A-lunch for students interested in the writing process or becoming authors. We have several of her books available in the library to check out or students can purchase a book and have it autographed. (See email attachments)

Please let me know if your class would like to participate in the author presentation or you have students who want to bring their lunch to the library and chat with author.

Thanks! See ya at the book fair :*)

Monthly Fire Drills

The monthly fire drills will be random. The team will no longer announce fire drills to ensure we are practicing what needs to happen in the event of a real emergency.

Please remember the following during each drill...
  • Please make sure you instruct all of you classes on the procedures and etiquette for fire drills.

  • Please remember to lead your class out of the room for the fire drill. Once the

alarm sounds, give quick and concise instructions, name a student to close the door and lead students to the field.

  • Upon re-entry of the building, instruct students to go directly to the class of origin regardless of time and change of periods (attendance should be taken when the entire class has returned to the classroom). In the event of a period change during a drill or an actual emergency, the administrative team will release students via the PA to their next class.

  • Attendance must be taken before, during and after drills and/or emergency situations to ensure all students whereabouts and safety.

We are ONE and as ONE we work together!
