Hawks Happenings

October 2018

It's October but the weather doesn't feel like it!

It is hard to believe that it is October due to such high temperatures each day! While I am not complaining, it might be time for a little cool down.

I didn't send out this newsletter last week due to all of the daily communication with our Fun Run. Speaking of the Fun Run, what a success it was! I would like to share a tremendous thank you to all of our families and friends who supported this fundraiser. We surpassed our goal of raising $30,000 and we collected a pledge from all 50 states! The fundraising aspect of the event was incredible but my favorite part was the look of accomplishment on the faces of our students as they ran 30-35 laps! They were proud of themselves and they were having fun! I would like to extend a special thank you to our PTO for selecting a fundraiser that supports our leadership and character development framework and works to involve every student in the final event. Stay tuned to hear when we will schedule our Movie Day (for meeting our goal) and our Slime Time (for earning a pledge from all 50 states). Last year, we offered students a choice of four different movies. Students took home a permission slip for parents to sign indicating approval of the movie choice. We will follow the same format this year once we have our dates scheduled.

Please review the following information in our newsletter. I hope you will find it informative and helpful. Thank you for your continued support of Weaverville Elementary!

Annual Eblen Pumpkin Campaign

It is that time of year when The Weaverville PTO joins with Eblen Charities in the Annual Eblen Pumpkin campaign. Donations made during this event aid Eblen Charities in providing medical and emergency assistance to families in Western North Carolina.

We will celebrate the Eblen Pumpkin campaign with a fun week of school spirit activities where students and families can participate in three ways:

  • Students can bring in donations to buy paper Eblen Pumpkins for $1 each, and the pumpkins will be used to decorate the school.

  • Students can also be a part of the Eblen Campaign by dressing up each day during Spirit Week with the daily theme. Families who are able can contribute $1 each day.

  • The final way Weaverville families can help Eblen Charities is by identifying children and families in need. If you know of a child or an adult in need of medical assistance or emergency food, clothing, shelter or heating aid, please contact Eblen Charities at 255-3066.

The classroom that raises the most money for Eblen Charities through Pumpkin sales and Spirit Week contributions will win a healthy fall snack celebration for the class.

Due to parent feedback, Weaverville Elementary and Weaverville Primary have tried to coordinate the Spirit Days. Due to schedules at both schools, it was possible to overlap on some days and those themes are coordinated for your convenience.
