Principal's Post
Dear Irish Families,
Did you know that September was National School Attendance Awareness Month? Your child's punctuality to school and the avoidance of early releases, is important. When they are late or leave early, they do not get a full day of learning and those become missed opportunities that we cannot replace. Your partnership with our staff to ensure strong attendance is critical for your child/ren's success. Creating positive habits now can translate to positive habits for life.
Taken directly from our Parent/Student, here are reminders of our Tardy and Attendance Policies.
K-8 Tardy Policy
St. Patrick Catholic School makes every effort to help students develop positive habits to be successful now and in the future. A student’s school day begins at 7:45 AM with Morning Prayer & Announcements for K-8 and with circle time on the carpet for PreK-3 and AM/Full Day VPK and at 11:45 AM for PM VPK. A student is considered tardy if he/she is not present in homeroom by the time Morning Prayer & Announcements / circle time begins at 7:45 AM / 11:45 AM. Frequent tardiness is unacceptable.
Students were issued a grace period from August 13th-September 15th.
The K-8 Tardy Policy will be enforced on a Quarterly basis.
- After the 3rd unexcused tardy (Quarterly), the parents will receive a Tardy Letter signed by the Principal and homeroom teacher. The letter must be signed by a parent and returned to the homeroom teacher.
- After the 5th unexcused tardy (Quarterly), the parents have a meeting with the School Counselor.
- After the 6th unexcused tardy (Quarterly), the parents will incur a charge of $15.00.
- After the 9th unexcused tardy (Quarterly), the parents will incur a charge of $25.00.
- After the 12th unexcused tardy, and every additional 3 unexcused tardies, (Quarterly), the parents will incur a charge of $50.00.
The PreK-3 and VPK Tardy Policy will be enforced on a Quarterly basis.
What classifies as an “excused” tardy?
- The list includes but is not limited to:
- Doctor visit
- Dentist visit
- Orthodontist visit
A minimum attendance requirement of 36 days each 45 day grading period should be maintained to qualify a student for a passing grade for that quarter. This will include excused or unexcused absences. Parents will be notified upon the fourth absence of the student within a quarter. After the sixth day of absence, official written notification will be sent to the parents requesting their cooperation in preventing further absences.
Under conditions that warrant special consideration, the administration will make the final decision after meeting with the parents and teachers.
Voluntary Pre-K Program laws, made by State legislature, require that students participating in this program may not miss more than 20% of the program in order for the school provider to receive funding. Students missing more than 20% will be allowed to remain in St. Patrick Catholic School’s Voluntary Pre-K, but they will be required to pay full tuition.
Your Partner in Faith & Education,
Mr. Kent
Proud Principal
