See, Choose, Act!
Changing Our World with Courage and Compassion
The William H. Shannon Chair in Catholic Studies Presents:
See, Choose, Act!
Changing our World with Courage and Compassion
“Hearts have been tested. The crisis has called forth in some a new courage and compassion. Some have been sifted and have responded with the desire to reimagine our world; others have come to the aid of those in need in concrete ways that can transform our neighbor’s suffering...we have to see clearly, choose well, and act right. Let’s talk about how...Come, let us talk this over. Let us dare to dream.” ~ Pope Francis
Pope Francis’ call to dream may seem naive. How dare we dream when the challenges we face seem unrelenting, perhaps, even insolvable? The COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, racial injustice, gender inequity, and transphobia continue to claim lives across our globe. Pope Francis responds to these devastating realities with determination and hope. To dream is to be animated by “the resilience, generosity, and creativity of so many people, the means to rescue our society, our economy, and our planet.” Imagine the power of scientists dreaming with artists; imagine activists in collaboration with economists and politicians, all in solidarity with our most vulnerable sisters and brothers! Such dreamers could hold the keys to “the path to a better future.” In the spirit of our Nazareth community, to dream is to be a Changemaker. And so the question becomes: how dare we not dream?
We are privileged to bring to our campus distinguished presenters who possess the courage and compassion to dream and to build a path to a better future. With gratitude for sharing their wisdom with us, let us welcome: Patrick Saint-Jean, SJ, Olga Marina Segura, Marie Dennis, and Daniel Horan, OFM
