FEBRUARY 2013
Changes in the SUMC Youth Group
During the month of February SUMC Youth Group will be changing a few things. SUMC Youth Group will now have a Middle School Youth Group and a High School Youth Group.
Middle School Youth Group will be held Wednesdays from 5-6 p.m., and High School Youth Group will be held on Sundays from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
The splitting of the youth group into high School and middle school is to better meet the needs of those youth attending and their families. By having the high school youth group on Sunday evenings it allow for more youth to attend from Stewartville United Methodist Church and from outside our church community.
THE WAY
SUMC Youth Ministries Mission Statement:
SUMC Youth Ministries will strive to build young disciples by being a light unto the city of Stewartville, surrounding communities, and to the world.
A young disciple of Jesus Christ embraces him as their Lord and Savior and in doing so, is willing to spread Christ Love through their life style. A young disciple will also have a willingness to teach others about Christ and have a desire to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
SUMC Youth Group 7 Core Values
1. Real: Youth should come as they are, not who we think they should be. God made us to be original, not carbon copies.
2. Relevant: One of the main purposes of the bible is to teach people how to live. Its message is about everyday spirituality, not outdated religion.
3. Relational: The Church is a loving and accepting family, a place where you can know and be known, love and be loved, care and be cared for.
4. Reaching: The Church is the hope of the world. We are not called to be exclusive elite. We are called to spread the good news of Jesus Christ to our world.
5. Refreshing: The message of the bible is good news. Therefore, we will have youth services and events that fulfill the spiritual needs of the youth.
6. Respectful: The goal of the church is unity in purpose and principle, not uniformity in personality and preferences!
7. Releasing: We believe in the great commission, and that we are all called to be lights unto a dark world. Thus we will rise truth, protected by the Holy Spirit as followers of Christ Jesus, and send them into the world.
Matthew 5:13-15 (NRSV)
“You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled underfoot. 1 “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house.

4-5-6 Club Kick-off
This month was the kick-off of 4-5-6 club, and it was a great success for all those who attended. The goal of 4-5-6 Club is to provide a monthly event for those kids who are not old enough for youth group or are just starting to come to youth group as 6th graders and are not always able to come to some of the events. It is my hope that 4-5-6 Club will help build a community of young believers.
During the month of January 4-5-6 Club bowled at Striker's Corner. The kids bowled, had pizza and pop, and were able to build relationships with one another. We at Stewartville United Methodist Church
