Alief ISD employees were awarded sponsorships to run in the Boston Marathon.

CITGO will sponsor Krystle Dunn (Elsik Ninth Grade Center) and Courtney Grass (Best Elementary School) to travel to Boston and participate in the 2019 Boston Marathon. In total, CITGO received approximately 200 applicants from across the country and only selected winners from partner school districts in Houston, Corpus Christi, Lakes Charles, Chicago and other regions.

Alief ISD elementary schools received silver awards from the HealthierUS School Challenge.

Cummings, Mahanay and Petrosky were recognized by the United States Department of Agriculture and the Texas Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition for their efforts to improve school nutrition environments and the health of children in Texas.

Olle Middle School students Diana Madrid and Favian Reyes were awarded instruments from Music Doing Good.

Madrid will receive a full-size violin, while Reyes will receive a 16" viola. The non-profit organization has also previously provided funds for Olle students to attend summer camps and provided students with private lessons with professional musicians.

Congratulations to the Alief ISD Scholar Athletes for the month of February!

Jennifer Arias (Taylor High School Girls Soccer) and Izaias Oviedo (Hastings High School Boys Soccer) were selected based on their distinguished achievements on and off the field.

Alief ISD students receive books donated by Caring Friends Inc.

More than 800 dual language books were donated to the students of Liestman, Smith, Sneed, Best, Holmquist, Horn, Youens, Budewig and Miller.

Caring Friends Inc. also funded the Good Reader Program at Alexander, Landis and Martin. This program will enable students at all grade levels to receive a new book for their home library.

Chancellor Elementary School students raised more than $2320 for the American Heart Association.

The students raised this amount during the school's Jump Rope for Heart event. Approximately 88 students participated, and the students surpassed the goal of $1,200.
