He was born Nov. 14, 1765, Lancaster county and died Feb. 24, 1815, New York. He was a American inventor, engineer, and artist who brought steamboating from the experimental stage to commercial success,but he was not the person who invented it. The Englishman Jonathan Hull patented a steamboat in 1737 so he is the one who first credited with making a steamboat.
How does the steamboat work?
They burn coal which makes steam, the steam turns the parts which make the engine work.

Where
He put all the parts for the engine together in New York.
When
On Aug. 17, 1807 he put all the parts together and went on there first voyage.
Why
People wanted a faster and easier way to get around on the water.
Why is it important to History

It helped increase trading and made it faster. This allowed for people to get things faster. It allowed for populations to increase faster.
