The Serene Scoop
Serene Hills Elementary School --- Jan. 20, 2023
Message from the Principal:
Today we held a school assembly to thank School Board VP, Mr. Bob Dorsett Jr. We watched a video about the purpose of a school board, met Mr. Dorsett and learned some fun facts about him, and the student body sang him the song, "We're All in this Together", and we presented him with a certificate of appreciation, and a book, signed by our staff. The song, sung by all our students' voices was incredibly powerful and moving. I'm so proud of this school, its students, and its staff.
I hope you all have a fabulous weekend.
Warmly,
Keegan Luedecke
SHE Principal

Next Week in Second Step:
Using our Calming-Down Steps helps us be better learners! There are many opportunities to practice your calming-down skills at school. You may have a strong feeling when you have to wait, or when you make a mistake, or when you have trouble finishing a difficult task. These are perfect moments to practice using your stop signal, naming your feeling, and calming down. When staff and students at our school calm down our emotions, it helps us all learn.
Dinner Table Conversation Starters:
- Do you think it is ever okay to share a secret that you were told in confidence? When and why?
- What do you think the word "respect" means? Do certain people in positions of authority, like parents and teachers, automatically deserve respect? How does someone earn respect? How do people learn respect?
- Everybody makes poor choices sometimes. Do you remember a time when you made a choice you later regretted? Did some part of you know that was a bad idea? What kept you from listening to that part of you? How could you support yourself to make a different choice if something similar happened again?
- What do you think the biggest problem in the world is?
- What could our family do that would make the world a better place?
