Assessment:
- Vision/hearing screening
- Teacher-Parent Observation Forms
- Academic Progress Reports, Reading Levels, Report Cards,
- Samples of school work including writing & spelling
- Formal Testing
- Attendance - effective classroom instruction
- Tests that measure phonemic awareness, phonological memory, rapid recall, letter-sound knowledge, decoding, word recognition, reading fluency, reading comprehension, listening comprehension, and written expression
Diagnosis:
- Deficit in phonological processing component of language
- Unexpected deficit in relation to other cognitive abilities
- Poor spelling and reading abilities

New Summerfield ISD Dyslexia Instructor
New Summerfield I.S.D.’s district dyslexia teacher, Mrs. McNAmara, has served in this role since the 2014-2015 school year. In addition, as of the 2021-2022 school year, the teacher has 18 years of instructional experience as a classroom English Language Arts and Reading/dyslexia teacher. Her teacher’s Texas State Board of Education certifications include the following: Elementary Self-Contained (Grades 1-8), Elementary Reading (Grades 1-8) , English as a Second Language Supplemental (Grades 1-8). Mrs. McNamara is trained in both MTA and Neuhaus Education Program.
