February 2021
Note from Kelly Hatton, Principal
Hello, Las Colinas' Families,
Thank you for your continued commitment in helping your children to be successful in Distance Learning. In a recent survey where I asked students who is helping them most through this chapter in their lives, most students responded with "Mom," "Dad," "Family" and/or "Parents." It may feel exhausting and overwhelming at times, but your kids are noticing and appreciating your support.
As we move into Quarter 3, our students made a smooth transition back into the classes they had for Quarter 1. It is hard to believe the school year is more than half way through. I have started to receive some questions regarding 8th grade promotion, and as we get closer to June, decisions will be made for our PVSD 8th graders. I will keep you informed and involved in those decisions.
With gratitude,
Kelly Hatton, Principal
Progress Reports & Report Cards - Delay
Quarter 2 Report Cards - Were meant to be posted to Parent Connect 1/29/21
HOWEVER, Due to an issue with an update to the Q information system, report card information is not viewable at this time. The PVSD Technology Services department is working on a solution. We will provide an update once the issue is resolved.
Student Connectedness
During our recent LCS Leadership Team meeting, PTSA meeting and “Coffee with Kelly,” staff and families discussed ways in which we can keep our students connected to Las Colinas while off campus during Distance Learning as well when we return to campus. We have gathered ideas and input from students as well in the form of a survey. In addition to the ideas that can be found by clicking the "button" below and watching the video, when we return to campus, we will begin organizing lunchtime sports' tournaments with sports such as kickball, corn hole and wiffle ball. Thanks to our ASB funding, we have been able to purchase some additional lunchtime sports equipment to make this happen! (The "Bitmoji Bulletin Board of Choices" below has been gmailed to all students, and, can be found on our LC website under the "Teacher Pages" for Mrs. Green and Mrs. Hatton. Kids can access the links as they are PVSD students.)

Digital Learning/Virtual Learning Help Needed
If possible, could you please discuss the importance of the following items:
1. Having their video on allows for more engagement in the class lessons.
2. Talking with their peers while in Zoom Break-out rooms allows for more connection.
3. Preparing for their day as they normally would in the morning before school, and sitting at a desk or table creates a more educational, and less casual, environment.
These three adjustments would be really helpful to our teachers, and we are hopeful that they might help to increase engagement. Thank you!!

Please join us Friday, January 26 from 8:30-9:15
Thank you to those families who attended the January "Coffee with Kelly." Parents gave input on how we as a school community can meet our PVSD Local Control Accountability Plan Goals, and how we can best build opportunities for our students to stay connected to Las Colinas during this time of Distance Learning.
We look forward to meeting our new families, and welcoming families we have not seen in a while! Each month, you are invited to gather with Principal Hatton to discuss campus topics. The next "Coffee with Kelly" will take place on Friday, February 26 from 8:30-9:15 am. A Zoom link will be emailed out to families as we get closer to the date.
Earth Keepers Club
Earth Keepers Club
We are meeting once a week on Mondays after school to discuss how to bring awareness to conserving our resources. There is a monthly newsletter generated by the students. If your child is interested in connecting with other students in our club, we are open to new faces. When students come back, we will create posters to put around the school. All of these activities can be used for volunteer service hours. Please email Mrs. Brockett at ebrockett@pvsdcamarillo.org for the Zoom link or kids may find it in Mrs. Hatton and Mrs. Green's Google Classroom.
