The World's Tallest Woman
The Constant Teasing
Sandy was always picked on in grade school due to her incredible height. By fifth grade Sandy was 6'3'' and had very few friends.
A New Friend Arrives
When Sandy's mother moved in with her and Ma, she brought along several of Sandy's half-siblings. Sandy took a liking to a certain one of her half-siblings, Michael. Sandy and Michael developed a close relationship, because Sandy saw that her mother did not treat Michael right. Soon Sandy became like Michael's mother, and Michael became Sandy's best friend.
Sandy Gets Named the World's Tallest Woman
After Sandy graduated high school she began working as a secretary. The women at Sandy's job measured her and found out she was 7'5''. They knew that Sandy had to be the World's Tallest Woman, so they sent Sandy's picture to Guinness. Guinness came out and officially measured Sandy. After the measurement, Sandy was named The World's Tallest Woman.
Sandy was encouraged to learn more about what makes her so tall, so she went to the doctor. At the doctor's office she learned that she had Gigantism. This is when there is a tumor on the pituitary gland of the brain. This tumor releases too much growth hormone causing people to never stop growing, until the tumor is removed. Sandy had to get the tumor removed in order to save her life. She was told she'd never see thirty.
Sandy Began Craving Publicity
Once Sandy learned that she may not have that long to live, she decided to spend the rest of her life trying to inspire others. Sandy was seen on several shows including Maury, Oprah, and the Jerry Springer show. Her favorite was the Sally Jessy Raphael show because it taught others to look past differences.
It's Okay to Be Different
After the Sally Jessy Raphael show, Sandy picked up a new catch phrase, "It's Okay to Be Different." This motto was so inspiring to Sandy she wanted to share it with others. Therefore, Sandy began selling her motivational video, called "It's Okay to Be Different." You could order the video by calling 1-888- BIG SANDY.
Sandy Draws Huge Crowds
While ordinary people love Sandy, so do celebrities! As I mentioned before Sandy was on several TV shows, but she also had a song written about her called "Hello Sandy Allen" by the New Zealand band Split Enz.
