🏫 What's Happening on Team Valpo❓
🔢 MATH CLASS ~ MR. AYLESWORTH 🧮
- In Mr. Aylesworth's Math class, students are finishing up working on area and perimeter of circles, as well as probability. Students will then be working on surface area and volume, slope and graphing, will take NWEA, and review for and take the final exam.
- In Advanced Honors Math, students are finishing up exponents and probability. Next, students will be working on scientific notation, slope, and graphing, will take NWEA, and review for and take the final exam.
🔬 SCIENCE CLASS ~ MRS. GALLOWAY 🧬
- In Science class, we are finishing up our Geologic Time unit and will be moving into our last unit of study, Energy Resources. We will study both renewable and nonrenewable resources. We’ll look at examples of renewable and nonrenewable resources and we will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each. We will also take a look at human impact on the environment and climate.
- In Honors Science class, we just started a unit on Genetics and Heredity. We are studying the basics of heredity to gain insight into how traits are passed on from parents to offspring. We will end the year with a unit on Evolution. We’ll start with Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution, discuss evidence that supports the theory of evolution, and look at how organisms have evolved and adapted over time.

In Science class, students participated in a Geologic Time Card Sort to learn about major events that have occurred in Earth's history. Students had to place the events in order of occurrence, determine how many millions of years ago the event took place, and then compare that time frame to one calendar year.
📚 ENGLISH CLASS ~ MR. CLARK 📖
- English and Honors English have started reading the novel "The Giver" by Lois Lowry. "The Giver" follows a 12 year old boy as he slowly realizes that he lives in a dystopian society and must escape. This book will take us through the rest of the year. Please note that there will be one final standardized test to take with the English NWEA on Wednesday, May 11th. In addition to our book, we'll continue to use Etymology vocab units, Quill, and Edmentum as supplementary materials throughout the month.

⭐️ MATH LAB/ENGLISH LAB/ENGLISH ~ MRS. HADLEY ⭐️
- In English, for the last 4 weeks we will complete NWEA testing, and continue to review grammar and writing as we read and discuss the novel "Island of the Blue Dolphins." This novel is a work of historical fiction, based on the life of a Native American woman who spent 18 years alone on San Nicolas Island. San Nicolas Island is the most remote of the eight Channel Islands and is located 61 miles from the California mainland.
- In Math Lab, we will be working on review of concepts from the beginning of the year as a review for NWEA.
- In English Lab, we will be working on writing constructed responses, inference, and figurative language as a review NWEA.

✅ Reminders:
- Please remind your student to bring their iPad and charger home at the end of each school day.

Students should continue bringing basic supplies to class each day. This includes: pencils, pens, highlighters, lined paper, folders, etc.
Every student should be equipped with a pair of earbuds/headphones on a daily basis as well. This was on the supply list. Earbuds/headphones are a necessity in many classes throughout the day.
