Welcome to Our Academic Coach!
Dear McKinley Families,
I am excited to announce that I will be taking on a new, Teacher Leader position, within the Fairport Harbor School District. I will be acting as the Academic Coach at McKinley, and will be working closely with Mrs. Polak to lead our building in McKinley’s Positive Behavior Support, Response to Intervention and other important district initiatives.
It is my hope, that in this new role, I will continue to help McKinley to grow and reach new successes. I appreciate your support, and look forward to working with you and your child, as well as the whole McKinley family. Should you have any questions please feel free to contact myself or Mrs. Polak.
Sincerely,

Winter Weather Reminders
Winter Weather Reminders
As we plan for the inevitable onslaught of winter weather, we would like to provide some reminders and ideas to prevent any issues with the snow and ice. The new dismissal procedure will remain in effect. Please use extra caution when in the vicinity of the school to ensure student safety at crosswalks and with the potential limited visibility with drifting snow. Our maintenance crews do their best to ensure sidewalks and flat surfaces are clear and free of ice, however, it is important to exercise caution.
What clothes are appropriate for my child to have/ bring to school?
We recommend that students dress in layers to accommodate the variance in temperatures from inside to outside the building. Students should plan to go outside for recess, weather permitting. This means hat, coat, gloves, boots. Students who walk should be prepared to encounter mud and / or snow and wear appropriate footwear.
How is the determination for outside recess made?
Several factors are considered when making the determination about outside recess. The building administrator (or proxy) evaluates the outside temperature, wind chill, humidity, age of children, length of time outdoors, adequacy of clothing of the children and condition of the playground. Exercise outdoors is healthy and is strongly encouraged. If conditions prohibit an outdoor recess, students will have indoor recess in their classrooms. Children who are not adequately dressed (ie. without coat) may be asked to stay in at the office, as student safety is our primary concern. Parents will be notified. Please do not send your child in shorts in the winter. If they are hot in the building, sending them in layers should accommodate this need.
What traffic patterns should we follow during snowy weather?
The traffic patterns will remain the same during snowy weather. It is imperative to the smooth and safe dismissal of our students that parents and caregivers DO NOT cut into the carline from unauthorized directions. (e.g making a right on Plum Street to Sixth or turning left from Vine onto South) Please view the traffic section of the school website if you are unfamiliar with the approved traffic patterns. Please refrain from texting or being on your phone during dismissal. Attention to surroundings is very important to student safety.
If you have any questions please contact the school office at 440-354-5400 Option 2
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation!
