Work-Based Learning Mini-Grant
$500 stipends available to four PLAEA educators
How can I apply?
This opportunity will boost the integration of work-based learning into the classroom and will also provide a model to teachers of how these projects can meet core standards, provide students with relevant work skills and offer value to the business community.
Select a Clearinghouse project or create a new project to launch with your class or student group from the Iowa Clearinghouse for Work-based Learning.
Work with Julie Graber to layout the implementation plan.
Create an integration guide for your project with core standards, 21st Century skills, future career connections, etc. (Example)
Set up the initial meeting with the business partner to establish expectations, communication plan, timeline, etc.
Create a video reflecting on the experience, including student, teacher, and business perspectives. (Video details below.)
Get approval from your building principal.
Julie Graber will submit the application for the stipend on your behalf.
This opportunity is open to PK-12 educators, any discipline. Space is limited.
Video Guidelines
Teachers or students will compile a video spotlight, reflecting on the project and the process. Submission of an acceptable video by the deadline is required to earn the mini-grant.
Video should be 3-5 minutes long.
Video will include reflections from at least 1 student, 1 teacher, and 1 business partner.
Video will include positive takeaways (from students & business partner) as well lessons learned or advice for others.
Video will include footage of students at work on the project.
Video should include a brief description of the project, the number of students involved, their grade level, and the course it was completed in.
Videos will be posted on the clearinghouse site and also shared to promote authentic learning in Iowa.
Signed release forms to share artifacts publicly on the clearinghouse site and beyond.
Shooting video using a phone is fine as long as high-quality audio and video are captured. Video shooting tips will be made available to ensure quality footage.
