Winter Park Band Notes
April 8, 2018
FROM MR. BLACKMER
Dear Band Families:
Congratulations to the Band Program's three WPHS Valedictorians: Matthew Kuczajda, Tina Lu, and Mitchell Thomas!
Also, a huge congratulations to our Winter Park Winter Guard on their performance at the FFCC Championships yesterday in Tampa! The Guard earned a final score of 63.15 and an overall "Superior Rating." Bravo!
The registration night for the 2018/2019 Band Program on Tuesday, May 1, is quickly approaching! The Registration forms and information can be found on the Band's website, and hard copies can be picked-up in the High School Band Room. Please help pass along this information to incoming Winter Park 8th grade Band students and their parents!
All the Best!
Mr. Blackmer
BAND REGISTRATION NIGHT - MAY 1
Band Registration Night for the 2018/2019 school year is on Tuesday, May 1, from 6 PM - 9 PM in the High School Band Room! Registration forms and information will be available on the Band website later this week.
The schedule for Band Registration night is as follows:
- Incoming Freshman, 6:00 PM - 6:45 PM
- Rising Sophomore, 6:45 PM - 7:30 PM
- Rising Junior, 7:30 PM - 8:15 PM
- Rising Senior, 8:15 PM - 9:00 PM
It is OK if you cannot make your scheduled time slot! It is set up that way to spread out the masses.
If you know of a rising band freshman who will be at Winter Park High School next year, please pass along this information to their parents!
UNIFORM CLEANING VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Is that time of the year to clean the marching band uniforms, and we need a lot of help washing ALL of the uniforms. Please stop by the 600 Building on Wednesday April 25 or Thursday April 26 from 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM and pick up a set of 10 or 20 uniforms, and return them on Tuesday May 1 during Band Registration Night. For every 10 uniforms cleaned, the student's account will receive a credit of $5.00. Directions and laundry supplies will be provided!
Anyone who can help, but needs a different arrangement, can e-mail Mrs. Bernard at lombernard@gmail.com.
CARPENTRY & PAINTING VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Skilled Carpenter Needed
If you have carpentry skills and tools we need your help. We are making some modifications to our marching band trailer to accommodate the new aluminum stairs that will be delivered this spring.
Painters Needed
If you enjoy painting and the preparation for painting, we need your help. We are organizing another trailer painting session on April 27 and 28. We are continuing the painting of the interior of the trailer to get ready for next marching season. Six to eight volunteers would be helpful.
For both opportunities to serve, please contact Willson McBurney at WillsonMcBurney@gmail.com.
BAND BANQUET
All Band members and their families are encouraged to attend the Band Banquet on Friday, May 11, beginning at 6 PM. This is an evening in which we honor all the hard work and accomplishments of our Band program. The evening will begin with a potluck dinner in our cafeteria, followed by our awards ceremony in the auditorium. Your ticket to the dinner is a potluck dish. More information will be coming out shortly, as well as a sign-up list set up on Charms. We hope to see all of you there!
BAND BANQUET DECORATIONS AND SET-UP
A work meeting for Band Banquet decorations and planning is scheduled on Thursday, April 26 at 7 PM in the Band Room. Please come to prepare decorations for our Band Banquet and awards ceremony. The more volunteers, the quicker we finish! Please email Maureen Dufresne at mdufresne5@embarqmail.com if you can help out.
WIND SYMPHONY & JAZZ ENSEMBLE I AUDITION INFORMATION
The audition information for the 2018/2019 WInd Symphony and Jazz Ensemble I is on the Band website:
Students are encouraged to seek out help from directors and current seniors as they prepare these auditions! The sign-up for Wind Symphony auditions is posted outside of the Band Room.
AMAZON FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITY!
Even though the holiday season is past us, this is still an excellent tool to raise money for the Band every time you shop at Amazon. The Winter Park High School Alumni Band Association is a registered charity on Smile.Amazon.com, so please remember to use this unique link to shop at Amazon every time, and a small percentage of the sale (at no cost to you) will automatically be sent quarterly to the WPHSABAA account and then donated to the Winter Park Band Program. If we all use this link every time, we can raise funds on an ongoing basis to help the band! https://smile.amazon.com/ch/27-0964817
