Student Attendance (VCS Policy Code 4400)

Attendance (VCS Policy Code 4400)

Students are expected to be at school on time and remain at school until dismissal. Students are to be present during the school day at the scheduled starting time for high school and college (face-to-face and online) courses and remain until the class ends.

(Grade 11-13 students with a parent/guardian authorized Permission to Leave form my complete online college courses off-campus.)

Students must sign out via Early College Main Office before leaving campus.

When a student must be late or leave school early, a written excuse signed by a parent or guardian should be presented upon the student's arrival at school. Tardies or early departures may be excused for any reasons listed in Section C of the VCS Attendance Policy. (Refer to VCS 2021-22 Handbook)

When a student must miss school, a written excuse signed by a parent or guardian must be presented to [Ms. Henry] on the day the student returns after an absence. Absences due to extended illnesses may also require a statement from a health care practitioner.

COVID Related Absences

Notifications of symptoms due to possible exposure to or positive test of COVID-19 are to be immediately sent to Ms. Hite (dhite@gmail.nc.us) and Nurse Sanford (rasanford@vcs.k12.nc.us). Nurse Sanford will inform students of VCS quarantine dates and student return dates.

Early College H.S. Procedures:

Early Dismissal

Students are to submit a parent-signed note with the time of dismissal and parent contact information to Ms. Henry to verify the authorization of the note. Parent/guardian contact information must match parent/guardian information in PowerSchool.

Dismissal Due to Student Illness

If students feel unwell during the school day, students are to notify school office personnel immediately so that parents or guardians are contacted as soon as possible. Notification will allow Early College office personnel to stay aware of students' status and verify the authorization of dismissal from VGCC 's campus.

Big picture

Vance Co. Schools Student Cell Phone Use

Inappropriate cell phone use is a tremendous distraction to the learning environment and school culture overall. Cell phone use during school hours is limited to instructional purposes, only.

Cell phone use is only permitted before and after school and during lunch. Parents, please contact your child via their VCS email or call the school office at 252-738-3580 to have a message delivered.

Unauthorized use of cell phones warrants a behavioral consequence and parent contact.

Vance Co. Schools Inclement Weather Announcements

Initial Vance Co. Inclement Weather announcements are sent via VCS Director of Communication and Marketing, Mrs. Aarika Sandlin. Parents and guardians, please email Ms. Hite @ dhite@vcs.k12.nc.us to be added to the district communication list.
