Palacios Vocabulary Parade Judges

Thank you to our P-SJ-A school board members for assisting as our vocabulary parade judges.

Our judges were Mr. Jorge Zambrano, Mr. Jesse Zambrano, Mr. Jesse Vela, Mr. Ronnie Cantu and Mr. Jorge Palacios.

The vocabulary parade is based on the book by Debra Frasier. The idea for a vocabulary parade came from Debra Frasier, author of the book, Miss Alaineus, A Vocabulary Disaster.

Global Read Aloud!

§110.3. English Language Arts and Reading, Kindergarten-Grade 5

(b) Knowledge and skills.

(7) Response skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking using multiple texts. The student responds to an increasingly challenging variety of sources that are read, heard, or viewed. The student is expected to

(A) describe personal connections to a variety of sources;

(B) write brief comments on literary or informational texts;

(C) use text evidence to support an appropriate response;

(D) retell texts in ways that maintain meaning;

(E) interact with sources in meaningful ways such as illustrating or writing; and

(F) respond using newly acquired vocabulary as appropriate.

I received a Donor's Choose grant for books to be read aloud the entire month of October. Donor's Choose is a nonprofit organization that allows public school projects to be funded by the public. These books will be used year round for many years to come.Thank you to the sponsors for granting these books to our students.

Mrs.Rangel's kindergarten class listened to the story "My Mouth Is a Volcano!" by Julia Cook during one of their library visits during October. This was one of the books donated by Donor's Choose for the Global Read Aloud.

BrainPOP Jr.

"BrainPOP a database with animated curriculum-based content that is aligned to state education standards. The site includes video, game, quiz, and activity sections for science, health, writing, reading, social studies, and math based on national education standards."

Digital Learning - Effective school libraries are a vital hub with equitable access to emerging technologies which provide curated and open access to a variety of print and digital resources. They support best instructional practices and curriculum standards through the integration of resources while assessing the impact on student learning.
