Williamson Central School District Driver Education Information Sheet
Seniors, juniors and families,
The Williamson School District has the ability to offer Driver Education during the school year, both in the spring and fall as an after school program. Below is detailed information.
- The cost of the course will be $275 per student. This is more than the course we have held in the summer; however that course is subsidized by payments from NYS through BOCES. We also know that after research the Williamson School District is offering Driver Education at one of the lowest prices in the area.
- The fall course is scheduled to start the week of October 3 and run until December 2, 2022. The spring course could run January 30 - April 21, 2023.
- This will be an “after school” program. The class portion will be in person.. These sessions will be 90 minutes long and be conducted two/three per week for nine weeks. Depending on student extracurricular activities, these classes could be held after school, in the evenings and on the weekend. The class portion needs to cover the 24 hours mandated by NYS. Again, I know that students have athletics and other extracurricular activities so, when scheduling classes and car times I will take that into consideration.
- The “Behind-the-Wheel” (BTW) portion of the class will be administered with a combination of driving in the Driver Education car and parent/guardian supervision with guidance from the Driver Education Instructor. A registered, insured car must be available with a licensed parent/guardian to cover that portion of the BTW curriculum. Even if the student has a license, he/she will still need to drive with a licensed parent/guardian to complete any BTW portion of the program not spent with the Dr Ed instructor. These hours will need to be documented to meet NYS requirements. As with the class portion, BTW will also need to cover the 24 hours mandated by NYS.
- If there is a situation where there is a strong response to this course, seniors will have preference over juniors

Cafeteria Message
The Cafeteria staff would like to update all students that lunches are not free for everyone this year. Students will need to make sure they have money on their accounts or have their household submit a Free/Reduced Meal application if they believe they qualify for free/reduced price meals. Upon getting lunch, before you go back to the cafeteria, students must stop by the register to have their lunch deducted from their balance.

Water Bottles
We encourage all students to bring a reusable Water Bottle with them to school. Please help us promote sustainability, and stop the wasteful use of disposable cups. We are also collecting donated reusable water bottles in the Main Office for those who need them.
