WPE Community Newsletter - Week of February 21

Message from the Principal

Good Afternoon Whispering Pines Families,

Thank you for helping the Boosterthon be such a successful fund raiser for our school. Your generosity will help with outfitting our new multipurpose room with additional equipment as well as upgrade our library space. We are so grateful to our parents and community!

The multipurpose room has made significant progress since the beginning of the year. We have exterior brick being placed now and our construction foreman has done an outstanding job keeping this project at the lead of all of the multipurpose rooms being built in the district!

Thank you,

Wendy Anaya, Principal

Whispering Pines Elementary

CAMPUS UPDATES AND REMINDERS✍

CELL PHONES

As a reminder cell phones are not allowed to be used during the day. Once a student walks through the doors the phones must be turned off and put in their backpacks until we walk out of the door for dismissal. Students using their cell phone during the day will have it taken up and place with the Assistant Principal or Principal for parents to come and pick up. This includes watches that have text and call ability. Thank you for your help.

DISMISSAL REMINDERS

Please remember that the front entrance is for Daycare and buses ONLY. We will redirect you to the car rider line. When parents come to pickup their "walker" in the front it clogs up the area and the buses and daycares can not get through.

TARDIES AND ABSENCES

We have many children continuing to arrive after the tardy bell and are missing instruction. Please bring your children to school by 7:45 am if you want them to eat breakfast and leave them the entire day so we can insure they are receiving instruction in all content areas. When they arrive at 8:30 they have missed a lesson. Thank you!

MEETING WITH TEACHERS OR PRINCIPALS

While we try our best to meet with parents for situations that require immediate attention, we are not always available because we are supporting students as they learn and grow. Please contact your teacher directly to set up a conference or krose@humble.isd to schedule a meeting with administration.

BREAKFAST IN THE CLASSROOM

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get your child to school by 7:45 if you would like them to eat breakfast! We are serving all children breakfast this year. If you want your child to eat at school please get them here by 7:45am so they have time to eat their breakfast before we start class at 8:00. We have many students coming right at 8:00 and then wanting to eat breakfast. We don't want them to miss instruction time.

DONATIONS TO THE PANDA MART

Our children all love the Panda Mart! Panda Bucks are like gold and they earn them through great behavior and great work and showing Panda Pride. However we could use your help. We can't pay for these items through Title 1 funds so we rely on our teachers and families to make donations. Please check out the link to the Amazon Wish List for items you can donate to the Panda Mart. COME ON....HELP A PANDA OUT!

Huge thank you for Erika Savarese, Marketing Director from SE Texas ER and Hospital, for her help in securing a $500 donation. The donation from the hospital was used to ensure that every student on the WPE campus was awarded a WPE Boosterthon t-shirt for our recent fund-raiser. In addition, many parents donated extra money for shirts and we appreciate your generosity! Thanks to SE Texas ER and Hospital, along with our parents, every student felt special during our Glow Run on Friday, Feb. 18th.

NEWS FROM NURSE LINDSEY

There are quite a few clinic visits every day with students complaining of stomach pains and/or headaches. One of my first questions is always "Did you eat breakfast?" For those who say they did not eat breakfast I give them a few crackers and that is usually the cure. Please make sure your child is eating breakfast. It truly is the MOST important meal of the day. Breakfast is offered at school everyday....every child has an opportunity to eat if they arrive at school on time. Educate your child on the importance of breakfast and getting that "brain jumpstart" in the mornings!!

Counselor Corner:

Check out our Counseling 3rd Quarter Newsletter. This will give you information on our guidance lesson and the Great 8 Skill for these 9 weeks, Goal Directed Behavior. During community time, we will be discussing how we should have a positive mindset to help us get through challenging times when we are trying to reach a goal. Here is a way that you can support this skill at home by stating this positive affirmation with your child; “I can do hard things and I choose to try again.”

On 2/24/2022 Humble ISD will be hosting a wellness fair in efforts to connect the community with mental and physical healthcare providers. Library Books

Students check out library books during their library class every other week. Depending on the grade they can check out 1 to 3 books. Their teachers can also send them in the morning or throughout the day for new books. I always want students to have books to read in class or at home. One of the issues we are having is that students are NOT returning books. I know kids forget, but when books haven't been returned in months, then other kids can't enjoy that book. Students are reminded regularly to return books and we even had a fidget drawing before winter break to get books returned. Notices of overdue books are being sent out to parent emails and given to students. Please have students look for books and return them. Books like to hide in rooms, bookshelves, cars, desks, teacher libraries, and backpacks. If the student can't find and return the book(s) then they will need to be paid for. Books can be paid for at https://humbleisd.revtrak.net/Elementary-Schools-1011/Elementary-Schools-N-Z/whispering-pines-elementary/wpe-library/#/list The notice will tell you how much each book(s) is that the student is missing. Make sure you search for the book(s) because once you pay for it then it belongs to you, even if it is found!

FYI...There are 376 overdue books at this time. The cost for those books is probably around 3,000-4,000 dollars. Whew that's A LOT of money!
