Leadership Conference
What is the Leadership Conference?
Forty fourth-graders and forty fifth-graders attended the three-day WSD Elementary Gifted and Talented (GT) Leadership Conference held on October 6th, 13th, and 18th. The GT Leadership Conference is designed to bring together some of our most talented fourth and fifth grade leaders from across the district for three days of enrichment leadership training. The sessions were held at the Boys and Girls Club of Wausau. The students engaged in various leadership activities involving problem solving, risk taking, decision making, planning, communicating, conflict resolution, and time management.
Conference Teaching Staff
Teachers for the Fourth Grade Conference were Mrs. Emily Martin (4th Grade Teacher, John Marshall) and Mrs. Teri Wonders (4th Grade Teacher, John Marshall). Teachers for the Fifth Grade Conference were Mr. Matt Adams (GT Teacher- WSD), and Mrs. Cheryl Borta (GT Teacher-WSD and GT Leadership Coordinator). Additional help from Tammy Steckbauer, GT Coordinator, and Kris Peterson, GT Secretary was also appreciated.
Who can attend the GT Leadership Conference?
By state mandate, each school district in Wisconsin is required to identify students with high leadership ability as part of their Gifted and Talented program, and to provide “systematic and continuous” programming that will enable these students to develop leadership abilities to their full potential. Classroom teachers in grades 3-5 completed observation checklists to identify students with high leadership potential. Students from each elementary school who met the criteria for GT Leadership Conference were invited to attend.

Parent/Teacher Conference Sign-up
We still have one day of Parent/Teacher Conferences. If you haven't scheduled yours yet, please continue to read below.
October 26th - 12:30 pm - 7:30 pm
These nights will be evenings of scheduled, fifteen-minute conferences. We will once again be utilizing the PTCFast.com™website to facilitate this process. Please enter the following web address into your browser window to access the scheduling site:
https://ptcfast.com/schools/Riverview_Elementary_School_1
If you did not utilize the website to schedule your child’s fall conferences, you will be asked to create a login ID and password with the website and must provide a working email address prior to signing up for conferences. Once you have registered, you will then receive a confirmation email via an email from PTCFast.com™ with a link to schedule your conference day and time. You are able to schedule with your child’s classroom and encore teachers. If you do not have internet access or require interpreting services, please contact your child’s teacher to schedule conference times.
Due to the larger number of conferences, we are requesting that parents whose children live in more than one household work together to schedule one conference time for your child. We know this may not always be feasible, but it would be greatly appreciated if every effort could be made. If additional conferences are needed, we would wait until all families have had a chance to schedule at least one conference before assigning a second one. If your student sees more than one teacher for their core class curriculum, we have scheduled your conference for you and you will receive notification of the day and time.
If you are not comfortable attending your conference in person, we will happily schedule this meeting in a virtual manner. It will still be important that you schedule a time through the link provided so that we have a time reserved for you. We will then ask that you call school or contact your child’s teacher to indicate your preference for a virtual meeting. Your child’s teacher will send you a link to attend.
If you have questions or concerns prior to this meeting, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Thank you for being a part of the Riverview community, and we are looking forward to meeting with you!

Notes From The Health Office
Should your child become ill Please follow these guidelines from The Wausau School District:
- Please know masks are optional within the district. If you would like to send your child to school with a mask you are welcome to do so.
- If your child is sick ( Covid - 19 or something else) , please keep them home
- If your child is showing Covid -19 symptoms , we recommend they get tested. We accept PCR, Rapid Antigen and Home tests.
- If the test comes back negative, they can return to school when they are fever free for 24 hours without medication and improved symptoms.
- If they test positive , we recommend that they quarantine for five days from onset of symptoms.
If positive the first day of their symptoms is considered Day 0. Once five days have passed, they are cleared to return to school on Day 6. When they return, we recommend they wear a mask until Day 10.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
