PFC Open Board Positions For 2018-2019 School Year

We are working hard to fill our open PFC board positions for next year and really would love YOUR help. We are looking for a well-rounded mix of parents/guardians to best represent all the parental interests here at Thornhill.

Please look over the open positions below and refer to our website for the full description of each position. Thank you in advance for your volunteer support!

Executive Positions - these positions are voting positions and are very important to be filled. They are required to attend all PFC meetings (some exceptions can be made). We wish the Members-at-Large to be new to the board. These are one-year positions.

  • Member-at-Large (TK-2)
  • Member-at-Large (3-5)

Board Members - these positions are non-voting positions and are absolutely vital to the Thornhill community. They report to one of the executive positions.

  • 5th Grade Representative (must be 5th grade parent)
  • Auction Chair(s)
  • Hospitality Chair(s)
  • Parliamentarian
  • Recruitment/Membership
  • Site/Safety
  • Spring Carnival
  • TK/Kindergarten (We have 1 person and need 1 more, must have incoming TK or K kid next fall)
  • Visual Arts
  • Walk-A-Thon

Thank you Thunderbirds!

Big picture

Thornhill Talent Show

Close your eyes, here we go
We're playin' at the talent show
Playin' at the talent show...

Anyone a fan of The Replacements out there? If you are, you certainly recognize those lyrics above from one of the "Mats" last great songs, "Talent Show." And as the school year is coming to a close, it's time for that annual event from which the next great superstar might emerge, the Thornhill Talent Show.

This year's show will take place on Monday, June 4 from 2 - 4 p.m. Students from all grades are welcome to participate, but we need an application form filled out and parent permission slip, first. Please go to the Office or Room 3 to get an application form. Turn it in to the Talent Show Box in the office, or to Room 3. Deadline for applications is Tuesday, May 29.

Sincerely,

Edain Baus

Student Council President

Read-A-Thon Update!

As of this writing the Thornhill Read-A-Thon has raised $4,770! And I’m guessing that might double by the time you get this newsletter. That is amazing Thunderbirds! I believe we will reach our fundraising goal of $25,000 by the time the Read-a-thon ends on June 1.

Dare I say we will reach $30,000 in this fundraiser?!

The top three classes are:

1. Forbes (K) - 23 percent class participation and $955 raised!

2. Bridgman (2nd) - 28 percent class participation and $825 raised!

3. Holman (1st) - 21 percent class participation and $650 raised!

The last two weeks of the fundraiser is when we begin to track reading minutes and encouraging incredible reading habits that will help us get through the summer months. Never fear, some great tools to track reading minutes. Go out and get those sponsors! The more sponsors, the more prizes for your student, and the more funding for all the great programs at Thornhill!

Remember, 90 percent of the funds raised by the Read-A-Thon are donated to the school. And all cash or check donations collected provide 100 percent donations to the school. There will be prizes for class participation, class that raises the most donations and the class with the most reading minutes (inside and outside of school) from May 21 through June 1. There are really amazing individual prizes for the kids that will encourage and/or support reading!

Please let us know if you need help setting up your page or have any questions.

Thanks for supporting the Read-A-Thon!
Adimika Arthur and Marie Christine Fox

In honor of the wonderful Sally Bonini, the Thornhill Staff will be having a retirement party for her at the end of the school year. Currently, we are looking for volunteers to help bring food and drink to the party and for a few to stick around until the end to clean up. Your support is much appreciated!

Location: Thornhill Multi-Purpose Room

Food: We are looking for mini-bites appetizers (i.e. fruit on a stick, veggies on tooth picks, small bite meatballs, mini cupcakes, etc...). Sally is extremely allergic to olive oil, so we are asking that all food be prepared without. Thank you for being mindful of this!

Dine Outs are DONE!

Round Table is still tabulating from this week's Dine Out, but the results are in from Fentons Creamery. Fentons served thirty seven Thornhill tables in one evening, and will donate $307.13 back to Thornhill PFC!

Thanks to everyone who came to a Dine Out this year! Whether you stood in line for burgers at Pattys & Buns, gulped a bubble tea at Mr. Green Bubble, tucked into a pizza at The Star on Grand or Round Table, or indulged in a sundae at Fentons, your caloric indulgences were fun for the kids and helped raise hundreds of dollars for our school. If you have requests or ideas for next year, please email escrip@thornhillschool.org.
