English I
Lisa Pogue, Royse City High School
Agenda, Week of February 1, 2016
Homework - Students have an assignment in their google classroom titled Expository Text which was assigned while I was out on Friday. The majority of the students didn't complete their work. The assignment, which is a spring board for the work we will do on Friday, is considered late if it isn't submitted by Thursday. The expository text wasn't assigned as busy work, but as a close reading assignment that should have been simple to complete independently. Whether the subs made the kids work or not, they could easily locate the assignment in their google classroom and they know my expectations. Please encourage your child to submit the assignment by Thursday.
In addition, students should be working at home to complete their Article of the Week, Responses. Article of the Week, or AOW, will replace SSR, this six weeks. We will be reading three articles in class. If students respond to all three, their test grade will be a 70. Students can choose an additional three articles to respond to for an additional 10 points each. Recording document for this test grade is here. We will go over the expectations in class and this document will be posted in the google classroom.

Parent Information
I am in AWE of the support our class received for our toolboxes. Our toolboxes are full, and I was also able to purchase more colored copy paper, a filing bin for our essays, and other small things our classroom needed. I can't thank you all enough!
Please check your student's parent portal regularly, or sign up for alerts. Several students already have missing assignments.
This week, I have provided a link to the grading rubric for the EOC essays that we will be discussing in class. Students who receive a score point 1 or 2 on their essays, are considered below level in their written expression. My goal is to have all students writing at least a level three paper. This means we will be writing A LOT!
