Forms of Energy
by Mrs. McD
Thermal energy is the part of the total potential energyand kinetic energy of an object or sample of matter that results in the system temperature. It is represented by the variable Q, and can be measured in joules.
Chemical energy is the potential of a chemical substance to undergo a transformation through a chemical reaction or, to transform other chemical substances. Examples include batteries and light bulbs and cells etc. Breaking or making of chemical bonds involves energy, which may be either absorbed or evolved from a chemical system.
Electromagnetic energy refers to the energy that comes from electromagnetic radiation. This radiation is composed of waves that move at the speed of light in a way that is suggestive of both waves and particles.
