Step Up Instruments
Paige’s Music is current making an offer by which you can get a recommended advanced level instrument on easy terms and, if you like, trade the instrument you have now toward the recommended instrument. You may choose to trade-in your present instrument, and payments can be arranged. We DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS OPTION FOR OUR Beginning Band students.
A representative of Paige's Music will be at the Fall Creek Junior High School band room on Wednesday 12/5/18, from 3:15 until 5:00pm PM to assist students and parents who are interested in this program. If you would like to hear more about this program, we hope you will be able to come that evening. You can schedule 15 minute appointments through the link below, or return the hand out that will be sent home with students this week.
If you are interested in pursuing this opportunity with Paige’s Music, please let us know by returning the bottom portion of this page. You may schedule your appointment with Paige’s Music online at: www.paigesmusic.com/schedule. If you have any questions, please contact Paige's Music. Please note that the school has no financial interest in any transaction you make with Paige’s. They have been asked to come to the school as a matter of convenience for you.
Differences between beginner and step-up instruments:
• Bigger Sound Beginner instruments have small bores that give shallow, small sounds. Better instruments have larger bores for bigger, fuller sounds
• Better Intonation Beginning instruments aren’t perfectly in tune – doesn’t matter at first. Better quality instruments are made with greater precision
• Tone Quality Beginner instruments are made of less expensive materials Better quality instruments are made of materials that give the best tone. (Plastic clarinets v. wood clarinets, nickel flutes/silver flutes, etc.)
• Features Beginner instruments don’t have extra features Better quality instruments have features that help the player play better in tune, faster, with more control, and with extended range. (Silver Trumpets, open-hole flutes, extra keys on saxophones, etc.)
Benefits of better instruments to the player:
• Better intonation
• Improved tone quality
• Larger sound
• Better control of sound
• Extended range
• Renewed excitement for student
Benefits of better instruments to the band:
• A bigger, fuller or more mature sound Tonal blend
• Intonation across each section is improved
• Students practice more
• Increased Commitment from student and parent
FCI 6th Grade Band School Performance
Our first performance for parents will be on Tuesday 2/12/19 at 6:30pm in the FCI Gymnasium. Concert attire for this performance will be black dress pants, black dress shoes, and student's FCI Music Shirt. We will also be doing pictures at the February concert. More details will be communicated regarding pictures after winter break.
Both dates are listed in our band handbook that was distributed at the start of the school year as well as located in Canvas.
Being in Band Throughout High School "Pays"
Purdue is a unique place in that we have around 1150 student currently playing in our ensembles within a university that does not offer a music major. In addition to the 385+ All-American Marching Band, we have 4 concert bands, three symphony orchestras (with winds) and seven jazz ensembles. It is remarkable. In the Spring semester, when the AAMB is not meeting, we will bump up to seven concert bands.
We do offer scholarships for playing in our ensembles. Some have requirements attached such as being in certain ensembles or playing certain instruments. Some are auditioned based. These are not full-ride scholarships by any means but they do help.
Also, our website is a good place for info: www.purdue.edu/bands
There are many universities that offer these type of incentives to students who play an instrument! Keep your kids in band! It could "pay" off in their future!
