Grit - What is that?
I have had the same video come across my path several times lately and I thought you might benefit from watching it. It is a short discussion about Grit. I know we all have experienced working with those students who may not have been the smartest students in our classes but boy did they have the grit to stick with it and work hard to achieve. At some point, all of our students (and maybe even some of us) need to "build our grit". I think this is much easier to do if you are interested or passionate in the subject matter.
I just want to encourage you to look for ways to engage students with your content. Maybe it is a scavenger hunt outside for content clues that when compiled, complete the idea you are teaching. Maybe it is a video that relates the material to something that our students are familiar with. There are so many different ways to present material. Maybe we provide resources that the students reference and build their own "something" (a book, a film, a play, etc.) Every technique will not be perfect for every student but if we try several we are bound to hit on one.
I created a short lesson on Google Chrome and How to Manage Multiple Google Accounts. Feel free to use this resource if you aren't comfortable with the Chrome Browser.
