RNNE School Leader Team Launcher
Weekly Coaching Focus Areas: 1/25-1/29
Observing with Data in Hand
What does data in hand mean?
Entering a classroom with some form of data wall (STEP wall, Cumulative assessment data wall, NWEA quartile wall, etc.)
Make a tally mark of the students who are being called on to answer in class and the quartile buckets being called on the most.
1. Observe with teacher-facing plans - so that you can be more targeted and laser-focused on what the root cause is (planning gap vs. an execution gap).
2. Have the most updated/relevant data wall with you - mark off/check off students who are being called on/participating actively in class so that you can identify quartile trend performance in the classroom.
Observation Form
This week's form aligns with the video protocol they will complete on Wednesday.
Additional Observations
Danny - Strive to complete observations for Constructive Instruction blocks for math - if they take place while you are teaching, let me know the times and I can look at my calendar to schedule to observe them and record them to share with you.
In the Moment Coaching
For this week, you can focus your in-the-moment coaching on "Do It Again" opportunities for teachers.
However, remember that in the moment coaching is just as effective and should be used to coach teachers academically/content-wise in the moment.
Capturing Video
Prioritize capturing videos on Tuesday and Wednesday/Thursday for their video reflections on Wednesday and Friday.
*You can also set teachers up to record themselves for their CPT videos as well or set your computer or tablet up in their rooms to have the video captured.
Every teacher must have a video to prepare for their video analysis on Wednesday and Friday.
Please follow up with your teams about their CPT/prep outcomes for this week:
Wednesday: I do/Lesson Opening Video Analysis - due by CoB (5:00pm) on Wednesday.
Friday: Types of Talk Video Analysis - due by CoB Friday (5:00pm).
Share me on/with me their video reflection docs.
Lesson Plan Review
Please plan to meet in my office at 4:15 on Wednesday. I sent an invite on Saturday.
School Leader 1:1s with CT
I will send your customized template out to you before/at the beginning of your 1:1 with me.
This is the form that I will use for all school leaders and will customize it for your 1;1 based on your role: AP, BOM, OM.
APs + April: Master Coaching Deck
Master Coaching Deck to update the action steps for each teacher/staff member each week.
Having this updated will allow you to identify trends across your cohort of teachers as well as allow me to identify trends/PD needs for the entire school.
The Master Coaching Deck is the only pre-work for your 1:1 with me this week. Just update it beginning with teacher observations/1:1s this week. Don't worry about backlogging.
You need to make a copy of the deck, rename/duplicate tabs for each of your teachers and share the deck with me.
Be sure to update this Master Coaching Deck weekly as I will use it to plan my week (ie determine which co-observations to schedule with SLs, which CPTs to join, etc).
Make it a habit to update the coaching deck in the last 5 minutes of your 1:1 with your teacher and send them a quick recap of the action step so that they know and you hold yourself accountable for updating it.
Below, is an example of how I've held myself accountable to completing the deck and following up after the 1:1 to reiterate the action step. I snipped the action step portion of the deck, included progress that we'd discussed, the action step screenshot and key reminders in a follow up email so that communication was clear.

I used Do It Again pretty much every single day in my classroom.
School Leadership Team: Weekly Planning Meeting - Replaced this Week
Her e-mail is below; there are attachments included in the actual e-mail as well:
Hi RNNE Team,
Just wanted to send a quick reminder that we'll be meeting this week to norm on teacher evaluations. To make sure this meeting is productive and a good use of your time, it's important that you come in with the following pre-work completed:
(1) Each SL should complete draft Teaching Performance Rubric and Core Characteristic scores in Fairsail for each of their teachers. To do this, you'll first need to complete the online training, which provides step by step directions.
(2) Draft at least 1 and ideally several (high, medium, and low) written eval sections before your norming meeting. It's a good idea to pick ones that you think will be challenging to write or you are not sure how to proceed on. (I'd suggest writing them in Word or Google docs rather than Fairsail so they are easier to edit).
Reminder: For supports and resources on how to score, write, and conduct evaluations as well as more information about the metrics themselves and timelines, don’t forget to check out this one-pager or visit the new Mission Control page: PRINCIPAL AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL HR/TALENT RESOURCE PAGE.
Talk to you later this week!
