Esther F Garrison School for the Arts News You Can Use
From the Principal's Desk
This is Principal Parks with news you can use. Welcome to Week 10 of learning at Garrison School for the Arts.
Report Cards were released on Friday. Everyone should have parent access, but if not, you can request it at the following link:
https://spwww.sccpss.com/dad/sis/Pages/Parent-Access.aspx#
We are cognizant that not every parent can sit with their children and monitor all activities, but we are very appreciative when you are able to check parent access, ask the teacher questions and get to the bottom of student work not being turned in on time. We understand completely that this is not a normal time for any of us and want to work with your families as much as we can.
We also recognize that we have students who are thriving in this realm and need little to no motivation to get it all done. We see you. We applaud all of the efforts of our children and families and hope that you remain safe.
This week we recognize all of our transportation personnel. The buses and drivers are transporting lunches all over Chatham County and we are grateful that our families are being fed.
Hybrid learning is going well. Our students and parents are excited each day. We hope that those of you who are participating in hybrid learning are hearing great things and most of all realizing that we are taking safety very seriously. Safety over convenience each and every day.
Phase III is upon us for eligible students in Grades 3,4,5,7,and 8. It is contingent upon staff availability. If the demand is greater, your child may be placed on a waitlist.

Some Suggestions for Setting our Gators Up for Success at Home
We anxiously await our time together again back in the building, but until then, here are some suggestions for a successful learning experience:
- Create a space for learning with everything your child needs.
Display daily schedules on a white board, chalk board, or poster board. (Younger students: write the schedule for them. Older students: make them responsible for writing out their schedule.)
- Remove distractions (Younger students: stay away from the television, games, etc. Older students: put phones and social media away.)
- Time management (Younger students: use timers to help them know when to start/stop activities. Older students: teach them how to set alarms for every class period.)
Have a set routine that students follow during school days (go to bed early, wake up on time, eat breakfast, etc.)
Change of scenery: weather permitting, take learning outside every once in awhile. (Check with teacher!)
Recognizing a job well done: play their favorite game with them, take a walk to the park, stickers, etc.
Chromebook Distribution
The media specialist and team have been making phone calls and scheduling appointments for Chromebook pickup. Please note that as additional devices become available, you will be given a call to pick up requested devices.
Please ensure the appropriate PPE (masks) are utilized when you arrive on campus. If you have not made your homeroom teacher aware of the need for a device, please do so quickly,

Greetings!
To Parents and Students, Faculty and Staff,
Beginning October 19th -23rd is Digital Citizenship Week. As we celebrate this week across the country, it is vital that our students understand staying safe online, proper online etiquette, and how to find useful and precise information.
Digital Citizenship is the responsible use of technology and etiquette pertaining to an online presence. This includes behaviors and responses to others within a digital community in which one is a member. Digital citizenship typically refers to those who use the internet regularly and is part of one or more online communities.

Hello to all of our Gators! We hope everyone is staying healthy during this pandemic. Remember to be active for at least 60 minutes a day; make half of your plate veggies and fruits; drink more water and limit sugary drinks.
HANDWASHING IS ONE OF THE BEST WAYS TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY FROM GETTING SICK.
It's Fall and time to prepare for flu season. In the United States, flu season occurs in the fall and winter. While influenza viruses circulate year-round, most of the time flu activity peaks between December and February, but activity can last as late as May.
RETURNING TO SCHOOL:
What can parents do to help mitigate exposure to COVID-19?
1. Report symptoms when their child is sick and keep them home.
2. Report if their child tests positive.
3. Report when their child is exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 (that means they have been identified as a close contact to a positive individual).
4. Be sure that phone numbers are up to date for parents and emergency contacts.
5. Be prepared with a plan to expediate the picking up their child if they become sick while at school.
DO WEAR A MASK THAT:
- COVERS YOUR NOSE AND MOUTH AND SECURE IT UNDER YOUR CHIN
- FITS SNUGLY AGAINST THE SIDES OF YOUR FACE
Do NOT wear a mask
Face masks with inappropriate imagery, wording, etc. will not be permitted. Mesh masks or masks with cut out areas are not acceptable. The wearing of bandanas or gaiters will not be allowed.
