MISSION: IGNITING A PASSION FOR LEARNING
Message from the Principal
Our year has gotten off to a great start, as students have raised the bar for spirit and positivity in our classrooms, hallways, and events. I'd encourage everyone to attend one of our varsity athletic contests, as the student section has become nearly as entertaining as the contests on the field or court.
The week of September 27 serves as homecoming for Kewaskum High School. Please be sure to access this link so that you don't miss out on any of our homecoming festivities. Thanks to our athletic programs, student council, band and others for their contributions toward what proves to be a very fun week.
Following are important updates for the month of October. Please take a moment to skim through, and contact us with any questions that you may have.
Happy Homecoming, everyone!

Power Time!
We begin every Tuesday-Friday with "Power Time" for the first 15 minutes during Morning 30. Every 6-12 grade student and staff member quietly reads from a book/magazine/newspaper of their choosing. Reading is the foundation of all that we do... and Power Time serves to provide practice while creating positive habits.
KEYS Run
KEYS is a non-profit organization established in 1985 to accept contributions to provide scholarships for Kewaskum High School graduates. In May of 2021, KEYS offered 57 scholarships totaling $204,700 to our KHS grads!
The annual KEYS Run will take place on Sunday, October 10 at Kewaskum High School. This year's run is of special significance, as we look to pay tribute to Jerry Gosa - a long time leader of KEYS and supporter of Kewaskum youth.
Please access this link to learn more about the run... and the great things KEYS does to support our students!
Covid Updates
The Kewaskum School District will be utilizing two different letters for families when presented with a positive Covid case at our buildings. Below is a description of both letters.
Building Notification: There was a positive case reported in the building.
Classroom Notification: There was a positive case in one of your child's classes. If you receive the same notification multiple times, it means the same positive case was in multiple classes.
Please note that a building notification will go out to all families, whereas the classroom notification will only go out to families of those that share one or more classes. Please contact us with any questions that you may have.
Attendance Matters
Every Student - Every Day
Attending school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and on the job.
Did You Know?
- Chronic absenteeism (missing 18 or more school days per year) is a primary cause of lower academic achievement even when the absences are "excused" or understandable.
- Students who attend 90% or more of the school year are more likely to graduate from high school on time.
What Can You Do?
Make school attendance a priority
- Talk about the importance of showing up to school every day.
- Help your student maintain daily routines, such as finishing homework and getting a good night’s sleep.
- Try not to schedule dental and medical appointments during the school day.
- If your student must stay home because they are sick, make sure they have asked teachers for resources and materials to make up for the missed learning time in the classroom
Communicate with the school
- Know the school’s attendance policy – incentives and penalties.
- Check on your student’s attendance to be sure absences are not adding up.
- Seek help from school staff, other parents, or community agencies if you need support.
Graduation
Student Services Updates
SENIOR SEMINARS: All seniors will attend a seminar in a small group to discuss their plans for after high school graduation and the steps they need to take to reach their goals. Get a preview of the information to be covered HERE. Topics will include post-secondary education options, career pathways, transcript requests, college/apprenticeship/workforce applications, scholarships and financial aid, and answers to many other important questions. Please reach out to your student’s school counselor with additional questions or concerns.
FRESHMEN: You and your child are cordially invited to participate in the Freshmen Academic & Career Planning Conferences that will be held this fall with your child’s school counselor. During these specially designed conferences, students and their families will learn about the academic and career exploration opportunities KHS has to offer. Students will also take an important step in planning for their future by identifying the career pathways they plan to explore. We thank you in advance for making this conference a priority and look forward to meeting with you and your child!
Conferences begin October 11th and run through November. Parents/guardians of freshmen students can sign up for an ACP Conference with their student’s counselor via Skyward. (Students who have two family households we ask the parents to collaborate with scheduling one meeting time together with your child’s counselor).
Log-in to Skyward Family Access.
Under Home (left hand side), click on the “Conference” tab.
Click on the “All Conferences” tab (middle).
Look for “Period 0 Planning Conference Grade 9”.
Under Status, click on “Select a Time”.
Find a date and time that works for you and click SELECT, then SAVE.
You will receive a confirmation email.
- JUNIORS - Pre-ACT: All juniors will take the Pre-ACT on Thursday, October 21. Students should arrive promptly at 7:35am with their #2 pencils and a calculator. The Pre-ACT will help identify areas to work on as you prepare for the National ACT which will take place in March. Additional ACT prep tools can be found HERE. Please contact your student's school counselor with any questions or concerns.

Athletics/Co-Curricular Participation
Please remember that it is the student's responsibility to ensure all work is completed for class in spite of absences due to athletic and co-curricular contests. Be sure communication with your teacher is tight - and utilize Morning 30 to sign up for extra time with those teachers.
