Newsletter Term 4 Week 8
Patumahoe School 8th of December 2021
Principal's Desk
Kia ora parents, caregivers, and extended whanau
As this will be the final newsletter of the year, I would like to say a number of thank you's. Thank you to our staff for your tireless work this year. Your wholehearted commitment to our bold return to school plan, really captures how great our team is. To our families and extended whanau, thank you for your understanding throughout the year and unconditional backing. To our tamariki, well done on showing strength, courage, and positivity this year. Many of you worked really hard during lockdown and have come back to school with a great attitude. I welcome a number of kids at the school gate in the morning and I must admit that the heels are starting to drag a bit as the end of year tiredness sets in. Honestly though, our full return to school has so many benefits for a successful start in 2022. Kids have cleared that return to school hurdle, they have reconnected with their friends and our kaiako and I think they are all the better for it.
We have some very special Year 6 students who will be leaving us this year. They are having some well deserved fun over the next few days. You cannot help but feel a deep sense of pride when you think about the sort of young people we are sending off. These children capture the essence of our school and we wish them the best. A few very special parents will also be leaving our school along with their youngest and last child this year (you know who you are). I would like to say a heartfelt thank you for your support over the years. Some of you have been at literally every single school and sport event, or perhaps been the first person we call if we were ever in need of a hand. You have given a lot to your child's education and in turn have given a lot to our school.
A final big thank you to our board of trustees. The last two years and in particular this last year will likely go down as the most challenging period for BOT's since their inception in 1989. You have served with poise and clarity in an unheralded time, whilst staying relentlessly focussed on starting important conversations on the wellbeing and hauora of our staff and learners.
To the PTA team. I am sure you will get a full run at your plans some time in the future. You hit the ground running this year and we thank you for hardwork and energy.
A couple of final pieces of information for the final few days of school:
Prizegiving- This will be presented live via ZOOM. The link will be shared via schoolsAPP this week. Look out for it. Prizegiving is next Tuesday the 14th at 1.35pm.
Reports- These will be going home with your child after prizegiving.
School finishes at 12.30pm on the 15th of December
Classlists will be on display from the 17th of January on the library door after 12pm.
Stationary Sale day 20th of January. See detailed information below.
Kaiako korero- 2nd of February at 1pm- 2.30pm. This is an opportunity to pop in and meet your child's teacher. It is very relaxed and no appointment is necessary. This opportunity may be particulalry useful for parents of new entrants and children who may have a bit of first day jitters. Simply pop by your child's classroom between 1pm- 2.30pm.
School starts 3rd of February. We are on! Immaculate uniform, school issue bucket hats, the works. We will start 2022 how we intend to finish it and that is strong. I will flick a detailed schoolAPP to all of our whanau in January just reminding you of any need to know bits and pieces.
Kind regards
Mr Tawhiti
