Just a Note
Happy November! We are excited to be wrapping up our first quarter this week.
Please be sure to sign up for a conference time if you have not already. Remember, conferences are November 17, 20, and 21. There is a special schedule for students these days, as well. We are eager to meet with you regarding your children in the coming weeks.
Have a happy Thanksgiving holiday with your family and friends! We look forward to hearing all the wonderful stories from the students when we come back from our Thanksgiving break.
Language Arts
As we move into quarter 2, we will again be focusing on fiction books. We will be practicing asking questions about a text, as well as summarizing the beginning, middle, and end of a text.
Continue to support your child's reading habits by practicing reading and writing their high frequency words and reading their little books each night.
Math
We are beginning unit 4 this coming week. Unit 4 focuses on place value and reading, writing, and representing numbers up to 120. Students must be able to recognize that 10 ones is the same as 1 ten. Students must also be able to explain that a teen number is composed of 1 ten and some ones. We will also be introducing the idea of comparing two 2-digit numbers using the terms greater than, less than, and equal to.
Family Home Connection Newsletter
Please continue to practice math facts with your child each evening. You should have received your child's first fact test recently for an idea of what facts we are currently working on. Focus on facts +0, +1, and +2.
