Leadership Spotlight
Dr. George Philhower-Superintendent, Western Wayne Schools
Dr. George Philhower has served in Western Wayne Schools for 13 years, most recently as the superintendent. The mission of Western Wayne is to nurture powerful learners by using the Four Pillars: Joy, Teamwork, Community, and Empowerment. Students showcase learning tasks at each grade level to model these characteristics. Over the past few months, Western Wayne schools has shown commitment to their mission as they have worked to ensure all students feel a part of the school community as on-site or virtual learners. Throughout his career, Dr. Philhower has found great value in reaching out to other leaders in similar positions. His advice to other leaders is to find a network of trustworthy people who can help in difficult situations.
David Verta-Principal, George Rogers Clark MS/HS
David Verta has served George Rogers Clark MS/HS for the last 15 years as a teacher, football coach, athletic director, assistant principal and principal. His commitment to the community, as well as his experience in a variety of roles has helped him build strong relationships with the staff. David loves helping people achieve their professional goals. The biggest lesson he has learned over the last few months is to listen. He believes people need to vocalize their concerns and then they are ready to collaborate to find solutions. George Rogers Clark MS/HS will close at the end of the school year, but David is proud of the commitment of his staff. David knows his staff is there for students and believes that teamwork will result in an extremely successful 2020-2021 school year.
