Ms. Cecilia Teixeira
Salvatore Palmieri Memorial Scholarship
Ms. DeSouza:
I was born and raised in the U.S. and yet my heart lies in Brazil. My family and I go to visit every other summer to see family and every time we are there my mom walks me up and down the streets she grew up on and even shows me that old house I was telling you about earlier that she built with my dad. When I see the old houses, the rundown shops and the beat up streets I still see beauty. I remember how grateful I am for my parents' sacrifices and how grateful I am for the life I have today. I believe in two things. Everything happens for a reason and that You only get one life, so be careful how you choose to live it. If it were not for the choices my family made almost twenty five years ago, I would not be writing this right now, I would not be sitting where I am today and I would not be on my way to college to start my life as a young adult.
Ms. Teixeira:
When I first came to the country I was a really shy person, and the ESL program was essential to change that. I also made friends that I want to keep forever and was with me through my whole journey. And lastly the program helped me a lot to improve academically.
In my future plans, staying in Framingham is definitely my first option, so I believe that in the future I could use my major to give back all the support that was given to me. I have a dream to one day become a social worker and help my community and the ones that once helped me.
Barbieri Two-Way Academic Scholarship
"The Two-Way program has helped me grow academically by giving me a higher vocabulary range and the ability to focus attentively in my classes. I am able to work creatively as well as work efficiently and independently in challenging assignments or classes that I motivate myself to do. The way that the program has helped me grow socially is being able to create friendships with others who are also bilingual or only know one of the two languages that I speak. I am able to create more discussions from my knowledge of the many different Spanish speaking cultures that I have learned about while learning the language. And being bilingual has helped me when I travel to different Spanish speaking countries like Spain and Mexico. I can easily interact with the people from there."
In Appreciation!
