Truck Help Needed
Preparation for Sat @ Parkway Central
We need help loading the truck the morning of the competition and unloading after. The truck will be at the High school at 8:15 am March 9, many hands make light work! Please consider lending a hand even if your student isn't in percussion.
Following is a percussion specific schedule for the Solo and Small Ensemble Festival on Saturday, March 9, 2019. The Festival takes place at Parkway Central High School and is a required performance for percussion students. Each student is assigned an ensemble that will perform on their own on this day.

The day is full of logistics that most students haven't had to manage before coming to the high school. Equipment is large and everyone is needed to help move equipment from our "home base" to the performance rooms. If it is a nice day (i. e. not raining) we will put all of our equipment in one place somewhere in the parking lot near the band room. If it is raining, we will try to claim a spot indoors either in the music lobby or the commons.
Students are to wear any combination of black and forest green. This is a business dress event, no t-shirts, tennis shoes or denim will be accepted. What, no forest green? Goodwill is just up the street or just wear all black. Be sure we don't have any inappropriate areas of skin showing. Judges decisions are influenced by your clothing choices. Think about how Mr. Wall and I dress at school--those are appropriate clothing choices for this event.
This day will last from 8:00 am to around 5:00/5:30 pm. It all starts and ends with the truck. We have to load our equipment, take it to Central (they don't have equipment to practice or warm-up), move it around up there, load it again and bring it all back. I will be there for the beginning of the day and the end of the day, but this year, I am responsible for many more students and will need to be in other parts of the building. It will be the students' responsibility to get where they need to be, wearing what they are supposed to wear, with the equipment they will need at the time they need to be there. That's why I have attached a percussion specific schedule. I recommend students and parents alike highlight the actual performances of their students. If there is an ensemble that your student is NOT performing in, they are expected to support and assist with the moving of equipment and watching each other perform. We cannot do this without each other.
Each ensemble, on the schedule, has a practice time, a move to the room time and a performance time. Another students will be assigned the job of helping them stay on schedule. They will earn 2 grades for this day: 1. a performance grade based off the score the adjudicator scores them and 2. a logistics grade based on are they where they need to be, wearing what they are supposed to wear, with the right equipment and assisting others.
Parents, we want you there. To watch, clap, support, help out. This is the most chaotic day of the year. Jump on board and enjoy hearing the students perform in a much more intimate setting.
Please contact Lisa Kinworthy lkinworthy@parkwayschools.net with questions, concerns or whatever. Yes, we would love for you to help load the truck.
