What's Happening in the Library?
Current Inquiries at the Braeside Library - DECEMBER
5th Grade - Weather or Not?
5th grade students are investigating mysterious Weather Lore - proverbs that describe weather predictions.
After reading and choosing proverbs to explore, student teams will focus on one proverb to deconstruct and demystify through research. Students will then present to each other in the format of a weather newscast.
4th Grade - Evaluating Websites
How do you know if you should use a website or not? 4th grade students are looking at different ways to determine this answer.
The criteria for evaluating website can be remembered through the acronym "DUPED," (D - Date/last updated, U - URL, P - Pop-up ads / any ads, E - email / contact person / author, D - designer / publisher of site).
3rd Grade - Winter Inquiry
There are a lot of interesting winter topics to explore, and 3rd grade students have been investigating many of them!
Students have been asking questions and finding answers, using different sources (print books, reference materials, and websites) to find information.
2nd Grade - Megan McDonald!
We've been reading many different books by our current favorite author, Megan McDonald. She is a very creative and talented author, and have been noticing that she creates unique characters, chooses unexpected settings, and is thoughtful about word choice. We are excited to watch a video interview with Megan, where we will learn some interesting things about Megan, including some answers to our wonders.
1st Grade - 1st Grade is on the map!
Maps are pretty amazing. We are looking at different maps, and getting ideas for maps we would like to make. Maps give us so much information! We read some stories about maps, and are making maps of our own rooms.
Kindergarten - Why do we read nonfiction? Why do we write nonfiction?
There are many nonfiction books in the library. We are especially excited about nonfiction books about animals. We started reading about bats, and found out about a nonfiction author, Gail Gibbons. We're thinking about why we read nonfiction, and also why we write nonfiction. There is so much to learn and find out about through nonfiction books!
