A Note From Mrs. Powell

Calendar Revision for April 1, 2021

Thursday, April 1 has been revised to be an asynchronous/independent remote learning day for students; it will be a required onsite workday for staff to finalize Plan A preparations prior to leaving for Spring Break.

Friday, April 2 is a Student and Staff Holiday.

Spring Break will be observed April 5-9. Please remember to practice the 3 W's: Wear a Mask, Wash Your Hands, and Wait 6 Feet.

Please visit http://bit.ly/CCSReEntryInfo for all information pertaining to Plan A return after Spring Break.

Plan A

Plan A face-to-face instruction will begin on Monday, April 12 for PreK - 12th grade. Under Plan A, we will continue to utilize the 6 feet social distancing where possible. Where 6 feet is not possible or the 3 feet allows us to serve more students more efficiently, we will utilize this option. Our top priority is keeping all of our students and staff safe.

Symptom Screener - Qualtrics

Parents MUST complete the Qualtrics Symptom Screener before a child can be allowed to enter the school building. You can find the link on the CCS website or in the child's email. If parents take a screen shot and show to a staff member, the drop-off process will move much faster.

Face Mask and Social Distancing

Students MUST arrive at school daily with a mask and students will be required to keep the mask on the entire day. Face coverings such as bandanas or gaitors are not permitted. The mask must fit over the nose, chin, and ears. The only exception to wearing a mask will be during their scheduled lunch time.

We will continue to utilize the 6 feet social distancing where possible. Where 6 feet is not possible or the 3 feet allows us to serve more students more efficiently, we will utilize this option. Our top priority is keeping all of our students and staff safe.

Breakfast & Lunch

Breakfast will be served on carts as Grab-n-Go Meals to be eaten in the classroom. Lunches will be delivered to the classroom by cafeteria staff. Students will be required to eat in their classrooms. A menu is available on the MCES website.

Device

Students whose parent has signed for a device, must bring their fully charged device to and from school each day. Personal devices may not be brought to school to use in place of the devices issued by the school.

Transportation

Under Plan A, we are no longer limited to 1 student per seat and will be able to run buses at full capacity. Everyone on the bus will be required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing to the extent possible. Buses will continue to be disinfected at the conclusion of each route. Also, parents who choose to have their 1st or 2nd grade child dropped off at the bus stop MUST sign a release form (link below). If a student does not have a release form completed and their is not a parent at the bus stop to accept the child, the child will be brought back to the school and the parent will need to pick-up the child from school.

Uniforms

Students are not required to wear uniforms for the remainder of this school year. If a student is not wearing a uniform, please make sure they are wearing school appropriate clothing.

Support Military Students in April #PurpleUpCCS

Worldwide, April is designated as the Month of the Military Child, and

CCS is excited about supporting more than 13,000 military-connected students across the district. As part of the Month of the Military Child, CCS has identified April 16, 2021, as “Purple Up Day.” Everyone is encouraged to wear “Cumberland Purple” attire, showing all military students that the community recognizes their tremendous service and the sacrifices they make every day.

“CCS serves the third-largest concentration of military-connected students in the world behind Killeen Independent School District and Virginia Beach City Schools,” said Howard Lattimore, the district's Military Liaison. “Military students are faced with many transitions, changes and hardships. We encourage our school leaders, families and community members to salute our smallest heroes— military children —on ‘Purple Up Day.’”

Why purple? Purple symbolizes all branches of the military. It is the combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine red and Navy blue. The Month of the Military Child is recognized by the Military Child Education Coalition, which supports all military-connected children by educating, advocating, and collaborating to resolve education challenges associated with the military lifestyle.
