Preparing for college & career - December Issue

Post High School Planning Night

Wednesday, Dec. 6th, 6-8pm

LaFollette High School

Open to all students. Junior students and their parent/guardian strongly encouraged to attend. We will begin the evening w/ a short presentation - College 101 (college timeline, how to be a competitive college applicant, and how to prepare for campus tours). Families will choose 2 of the following Breakout Sessions to attend:


  • WI Private colleges
  • UW Systems
  • UW Colleges
  • Madison College
  • Military
  • Apprenticeships

Freshman Conferences Happening NOW!

Counselors at LHS stay w/ their students from when they start to their graduation day. In order to get to know students, we do a 15 minute check in with all Freshman to go over grades, attendance, academic supports, ways to get involved at LHS, etc. Students can set up their own appointment to do this. AFS Project Change

Summer Science Research Internship Program Informational Meeting

11th grade students from MMSD are partnered with researchers at UW-Madison each summer. Each intern develops and researches a question of their own, designs protocols for data collection, and collects data over the course of the summer under the guidance of a professor, degree candidate, postdoctoral candidate or research associate. Sound interesting? Come and learn more!

Business Emerging Leaders (BEL) Program

  • Designed for promising students who come from diverse backgrounds and have strong academic records and demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Program participation gives students a distinct competitive advantage when adjusting to college life, learning in classes, and applying for internship opportunities, ultimately preparing them for successful careers in business.
  • BEL Program students who are admitted to UW–Madison and major in business are granted a full-tuition scholarship for four years of attendance.
  • Application opens December 1st and closes March 1st

Casa Abierta - UW Milwaukee Bilingual Day

Saturday, Jan. 27th 2018 at 6:30am-3:30pm

UW-Milwaukee

This event is intended for 9th-12th grade Latino students and their families. All information shared during the event will be in English and Spanish

Students will be able to:
• participate in a resource fair
• take part in breakout sessions about high school preparation, admission to UWM and financial aid
• attend a student panel; ask questions and get the answers from the student perspective
• enjoy a campus tour and lunch

Students who plan to participate in Division I or II collegiate athletics during college, must complete an NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse form. Students should register at the end of their junior year, work with their counselor and coach.
