IMPORTANT TO DO
Self-Evaluation and Goals (more info in school news)
Certified
Please have your self-evaluation completed and begin working on your SLG and PGG goals. Due by 10/31.
Staff Meeting and Professional Development Feedback
This year there will be a link on each SM and PD agenda to gather information and feedback about the experience. We ran out of time for me to introduce it at our last staff meeting on September 26 and Classified PD on September 27. Please take a few minutes to provide feedback on one or both experiences. Thank you! SM and PD Feedback Link
IMPORTANT TO KNOW
We had a very unfortunate situation take place during the past week, where some of our most fragile students were made to feel excluded. Ana mentioned the situation in an email to staff.
In teacher's mailboxes is a "short" version of how to develop community circles in the classroom. Please use this resource to begin to build community in your room. Copied two circle actives from the more comprehensive resource, Circle Forward - Building A restorative School Community. After circles have been established and there is a level of community in your classroom, please complete the Being Left Out Circle and perhaps the Let's Talk About Bullying circle. There are many other scripted circles on just about every topic imaginable. You are always welcome to borrow Circle Forward. Susan Leonard also has a copy.
SCHOOL NEWS
Dreambox
Over 1/2 our classes have had students on Dreambox for over 60 minutes or 5 lessons per week! Several classes have 100% of their students participating. Four classes are showing that about 40% of Dreambox lessons are being completed at home! Way to go!
For those grade levels who have not initiated the use of Dreambox at home, you are welcome to begin. Soon there will be a document (FAQ's) that will highlight some important points when students are using Dreambox at home like; students may not have any help at all and students should not be using paper and pencil to complete the work.
IRLA
90% of students have an IRLA in School Pace and 52% of students have had a reading conference in the past 14 days! Great job teachers. Keep up the good work. Please know that our Intervention teachers, Pam and Brooke, are here to support you if you need anything related using IRLA and School Pace.
Google Read and Write
EVERY google document can be read to students using this application.
Student Goal Setting
Please make sure you set a goal for students with the parents during conferences next week. The goal needs to be typed into the report card in January with a progress update. The goal needs to be broad enough that the student still will be working on them toward January and perhaps all year.
Lockdown Drill
We did a great job this time with our lockdown drill. Please remember to consult your SRP (Standard Response Protocol) poster for what to do in what situation.
Important: It is NOT necessary to cover the outside windows anymore! Why? Lockdown: The POC is in the building! You should have your students hidden from door windows and concealed as much as possible, but police need to be able to see inside from outside. Lockout: The issue is outside and business is as usual inside the building. There is no movement between buildings until the lockout is over.
Catlin Gabel School Volunteers
Two students, William and Timmy from Catlin Gabel would like to volunteer again this year. They have a 7 day rotation, and the time to be 10:30 - 11:50. If you would like to have them in your classroom, please call the office to make arrangements
Bees!
There have been several bee stings from students on the playground. The district has high priority on making sure nests are eliminated as soon as possible. Please report any bees nest to the office or to Luis.
Megan Ewert
Megan is hanging in there and would love to hear from the staff. Her personal email is: megewert4@gmail.com. She would love to hear how everyone here is doing.
Student Learning Goals and Professional Growth Goals
Example SLG (Student Learning Goals)
- Teachers set two Student Learning and Growth (SLG) goals
- The use of statewide assessments as a measure of SLG goals is optional
- All educators, regardless of grade level or subject, may use Category 2 measures for their SLG goals
- All educators should set one Professional Growth Goal (PGG)
- Tools and guidance available on ODE website
- Have goals submitted to you by October 31
SLG Training Power Point Presentation
Here are some great examples of goals written in a spreadsheet and with benchmark (baseline), individual target goals, interim assessment, and goal achievement organized into columns.

Writing your PGG and SLG in Pivot. Remember "Area of Focus" is your PGG goal related to the 5D+. Your "Goal" is a Student Learning Goal -- written in a SMART goal format. You must click the "Add a Goal" button to create a box for the 2nd SLG.

School Participant Registration
October is National Farm to School Month.
Nutrition Services is working to improve access to healthy, local food in our school lunchrooms and to help stimulate the local economy by purchasing from NW farmers. We will be celebrating by featuring primarily Local Oregon Products on all of our salad bars from October 2nd through the 6th. Fresh Zucchini, Radishes, Red Leaf and Romaine Lettuces, Hermiston Watermelon, Organic Pears and Apples from Hood River Organics, Purple Grapes from Vial Family Farms in Scholls, and Oregon Apples and Pears from Gatto Produce will see their way onto our salad bars during this week. We are excited about being able to feature the longer season items throughout the school year. We welcome you to join us for lunch!
