National Opposite Day - January 25th!

Big picture

Opposite Day is the perfect time to let kids be creative, whether at home or in a classroom, we are sure there are many things that can be done. Here are some great ideas to celebrate Opposite Day with kids of all ages:

At School on January 25th:

  • Wear your clothes inside out or backwards.
  • Wear your shoes on the opposite feet.
  • Put socks on your hands instead of your feet.
  • Wear pajamas during the day and day clothes to bed.
  • Say the alphabet from Z to A.
  • Talk about antonyms and write a poem using antonyms.
  • Learn about palindromes.

At Home:

  • Have supper for breakfast and breakfast for supper.
  • Speak in opposites (“bad” for “good”, “yes” for “no”, etc.)
  • Eat dessert first.
  • Walk backwards.
  • Do everything with your non-dominant hand so lefties use their right hand and righties use their left hand.
  • Write your name backwards.
  • Draw upside down.
  • Try a role reversal where the parent gets to be the child for a while.
  • Sing a song backwards.
  • Read a book backwards starting from the back to the front.
  • Hang pictures or artwork upside down.
  • Practice some mirror writing.
  • Take pictures with the subject’s back to the camera.
  • Make upside down cupcakes with icing on the bottom.
  • Make sandwiches with the bread or bun on the inside.
  • Sleep with your head at the foot of the bed.
  • Let your kids read YOU a bedtime story.

Spelling Bee #2 - February 15 at 1:55 PM

SPELLING BEE AUDIENCE ETIQUETTE

At the bee, it is appropriate to acknowledge the students who have prepared for this contest. However, interruptions during the event are a distraction to the speller, pronouncer, and judges. Please follow these simple guidelines as an audience member during the bee.

General Etiquette: No mouthing, calling out of letters, or help in any way may be offered to the spelling bee participants. Spelling participants have studied and worked hard to be a part of this spelling bee. Please extend participants the courtesy of not speaking or distracting them during the competition.

Applause: Silent Applause for the spellers is acceptable at the end of each speller.

Children: Children who are not participating in the bee are asked to sit quietly with their parents or guardian. Young children may have difficulty sitting through a spelling bee. If a young child becomes disruptive, we ask that you please exit the cafeteria as soon as possible.

Cell Phones: We request that cell phones are turned off or placed on silent during the bee. Photos of the event: We ask that during the bee flash photography is not used. If you take photos without a flash during the bee, please take them from your seat in the gym.

Thank You!
