Take your Lesson 7 Quiz Today

- This week's quiz covers vocabulary, grammar and hiragana from lesson 7.
- Prior to starting the quiz, carefully review your vocabulary and grammar.
- Your quiz should be completed by 11:59PM tonight.
- You get 1 attempt at the quiz.
- You CANNOT use your notes, study guides or any other course materials while taking the quiz.
Lesson 7 Hiragana
The idea behind combination sounds is to make a sound with the various consonants in Japanese (like k, s, t, b, n, m, etc.) and combine with the vowel sounds of ya, yu and yo to form a new sound.
To write the sound “kya” simply write き = ki with a smaller ゃ after it. The “i” sound in き is dropped. きゃ = kya
We use the small tsu (つ) to express the first consonant in words that have double consonants like issho and kippu. Any time we have a word that would be written with two of the same consonants side by side in romaji, use a small tsu to represent that first consonant.
Kippu (meaning “ticket”) is written きっぷ in hiragana.
ki = き
p = っ
pu = ぷ
Be very careful to make your smaller characters about 1/2 the size of the standard sized character. This is important to help differentiate them from larger characters.
きゃ = kya (correct)
きや = kiya (incorrect)
たって = tatte (correct)
たつて = tatsute (incorrect)

All overdue assignments must be turned in by Friday, October 23rd.
Do not wait until the last minute to submit any late assignments!! Plan to turn them in over the weekend and early next week to allow sufficient time for them to be graded.
Typing and Writing Particles
Please look at the sentence below:
さくらさん わ にほんご お はなします。
So what's wrong with this picture? If you said the particles are written incorrectly, you are correct!
The particle は is typed as "ha" Typing "wa" makes the character わ but this is not the same as the particle.
The particle を is typed "wo" Typing "o" makes the character お which is not the same as the particle.
さくらさん は にほんご を はなします。
NCVPS takes academic integrity very seriously. Cheating on an exam or quiz will result in zero on the assignment. Your school will be contacted and disciplinary action will follow.
Please take a few moments today to review NCVPS' rules for student conduct and academic integrity.
Russell B. and I had a good IM conversation yesterday and he told me that this week is his school's Spirit Week.
I was never "cool" in school/I can probably be considered "old" at this point in my life, so I didn't know what Spirit Week was exactly. Russell was able to explain it to me and it sounds like fun!
Russell is planning a special spirit outfit tomorrow and is dying his hair blue for the day! I thought that was really neat so thank you Russell B. for sharing that with me. It was a good learning experience and now I feel little more hep to the jive. ;)
I hope all of you who are participating in Spirit Week activities today and tonight have fun and enjoy yourselves. Be safe and have a good time!
Linguafolio is done in English and is a fun/easy way to boost your grade. Make your submissions this weekend!
