MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL LAMBERT
This week and next, all Castro students are participating in Ability Awareness Week(AAW). Huge thanks go to the SELPA 1 CAC and the Learning Challenge Committee of the LA/MV PTAs as well as the coordinators for this wonderful experience for Castro and Mistral, parents Agnes Charrel-Berthillier and Claire Quesnel-Oueini.
Students in grades 1, 4, and 5 participate in a rotation of activities that are designed to build empathy, understanding and respect for the challenges of all students. Students in grades K, 2, and 3 have a volunteer presenter come to the room and read a grade-level appropriate book and leading a discussion highlighting the challenges faced by students with physical, emotional, or learning difficulties. The emphasis is on understanding, kindness, and dignity.
It is our goal that every MVWSD student understand that:
- Every student is special in one way or another,
There is a common need for friendship, support, guidance,
Every student needs to be included and accepted.
This will be an annual event at Castro and we are confident that experiences such as this will help students to grow into caring and understanding adults as well as help all students to contribute to a positive learning environment.
Please attend the Speaker Presentation on this topic at our PTA meeting Wed, March 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the multi.
Best Regards,
Theresa Lambert
