The Charters of Freedom: Building a More Perfect Union

Guiding Question:
What is the purpose of each of the founding documents and why are they important?
Date: September 14
Time: 10:00-10:45 a.m. CST
Grades 3-5: During this program, students will learn the purpose of each of the founding documents -- the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights -- and why each is important. In groups, students will complete a graphic organizer and use the information to answer questions by incorporating kinesthetic learning.
This program is also available on September 17, 18, 19, 20, or 21.

Time: 1:00-1:45 p.m. CST
Grades 5-8: During this program, students will analyze opening passages of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. They will create a graphic organizer that will help them distinguish the Charters of Freedom by their purpose. Next, students will match document excerpts to each excerpt’s origin, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, or the Bill of Rights. The program will conclude with a discussion about the legacy of these founding documents.

Science Live! Science Below Zero

Science Below Zero examines some of the chilliest science on the planet. Students will discover the physical changes which occur when solids, liquids and gases are exposed to the extreme cold of liquid nitrogen. Audiences will be amazed as we use liquid nitrogen to demonstrate the EXPLOSIVE power of expansion for the grand finale!

From the Museum's collection of artifacts, photographs and films related to the crime scene investigation at The Texas School Book Depository, learn about crime scene techniques from the 1960's. See exactly what was in the crime scene investigative kit that belonged to Lt. Carl Day, head of the Dallas Police Crime Scene Search Unit in 1963! Students will also read firsthand accounts of the investigation from the Museum's Oral History Collection!

In honor of Hispanic Heritage month, celebrate the life and art of Hispanic artists in the Amon Carter’s collection and the Fort Worth community. Navigate through the skeletal prints of José Guadalupe Posada, the contemporary photography of Anthony Hernandez, a colorful installation by Gabriel Dawe, and works by painter and print-maker Rufino Tamayo. Also, learn about the artwork and life of a local artist in the Fort Worth community.

Observe National Energy Awareness Month this October and join the Old Jail Art Center for an in-depth exploration of this very popular and sometimes controversial technology.
- Students will review the difference between renewable and non-renewable energy resources.
- Students will explore wind turbine and energy collection technologies.
- Students will be presented with a variety of viewpoints on wind energy- including those of a State Conservation Representative, a local landowner and local artist whose work reflects the changing Texas rural landscape.
Following discussion, students will each craft a simple Windmill model that demonstrates how energy is created from motion.
