Happy New School Year. We are so excited for this upcoming school year. We can't wait to hug all of the kiddos and see all of our wonderful families in person and back home at Atkinson!

When is the first day of school?

August 5th

May I walk my child to the classroom?

Starting Aug. 9th, we ask that you pretty please drop your child off in the car line or have them ride a bus. If you need to, you may walk your child into the front office lobby area, but will not be permitted to go past the front entrance.

Please enter only through the front entrance door if you are walking your child to his/her classroom on August 5th and 6th.

If you plan to walk your child in, please park along Nimmons Street on the right side of the road. Do not block our neighbors driveways and please do not double park. Buses will be entering school also. Just a reminder that parking is very limited at Atkinson.

What time can my child be dropped off?

Staff will begin unloading car riders at 7:20 am.

  • Please do not enter the bus loading area from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.

  • Car riders enter off Nimmons Street and and stay to the right to go through car rider area.

  • Tardy Students who arrive after the 8:00 a.m bell. should report to the front office and get a tardy slip.

What time will the bus pick up my child

Many bus routes begin running about 6:45 am. Buses arrive between 7:00 am and 7:45 am. Please be outside ready to load the bus. Masks are required on all CCSS buses.

May I eat lunch with my child?

Beginning August 16, parents may come in to each with their child. There will be a special area where you can eat with your child. We ask that parents depart when students exit the cafeteria. Please do not sit with, share food or take photos with other students.

If I eat with my child, may I buy lunch?

Do you sell ice cream?

We will begin selling August 10, 2021. Ice cream is $1.00 and is sold daily to 2nd-5th grades after lunch is eaten. (Kindergarten and 1st grade classes have designated days to purchase ice cream). Your child's k and 1st grade teacher will let you know what day your child can purchase ice cream.

Afternoon Car Rider Pick up

  • Buses will transport students home from school and Bus Dismissal will start at 2:20. In the afternoon, please be outside to meet your child at the bus.
  • Car rider dismissal will look similar to previous year and will begin as soon as buses are all clear.
  • We will continue to use the program Safe Dismissal this school year.
  • Each family will receive a blue car sign from your child's homeroom teacher.
  • Those will be placed on the dash of your car when you come to pick up your child
  • We will have staff outside to key in the number on the blue tag when you arrive
  • The students will remain in a classroom until their number is plugged in and they are instructed to come to car rider area to one of our 4 zones
  • Car rider dismissal will start as soon as the last bus has left.

What if I need to change my child's transportation?

If there is a change in transportation, you must send a note in writing with the child’s name, the teacher’s name, the specific change, the specific days affected, and your signature. Please do not make transportation changes after 2:00 p.m. because we begin our dismissal procedures at 2:20 p.m

What time will breakfast be served?

All students are eligible for free breakfast and free lunch this school year. Breakfast is served between 7:15 am and 7:50 am each morning.

What do I do if my child is absent?

Upon returning to school (within 3 days), students must bring written documentation stating the date and reason for the absence with the signature of a parent/guardian, doctor, dentist, or judge. Without this timely written notification, absences will be marked as Unexcused.


The CDC issued an Order, effective as of February 2, 2021, that requires all individuals to wear a mask on public transportation to prevent the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19. This

applies to ALL drivers and travelers on school buses.
