A Note from Mrs. Johansen
Dear Sandburg Families,
Today is one of my favorite days to be the Sandburg Principal! We celebrated Veterans Day with a whole school assembly. It's a long-standing tradition at Sandburg to welcome Veterans, who are Sandburg family members, to our school to thank them for their dedicated service to our country. Thank you to all who came or sent pictures for us to include in our slideshow. It was such a special morning at Sandburg.
I have included a few updates in this newsletter for families.
- Should we need to have any snow days this year, D15 will be using e-learning days. These days will count as a day of attendance and we will be learning online during school hours. This week, our teachers showed their students how to find the Google Meeting link in their Google Classrooms. We spoke about the importance of active participation, having our cameras on, and completing the work during the day- just like we're at school for in-person instruction! Our staff is committed to making these days manageable and meaningful- in the event that we need to actually have one!
- In planning for an e-learning day, you can find more information about Internet Options at this SITE on the D15 website. If you need any internet support, please contact the office after reviewing the D15 website.
- An email went out on Wednesday evening about parent/teacher conference sign-up. Please refer to that communication with any questions.
- Kind request from the Health Office- with the winter season coming quick, we could use additional donations of Kleenex. Each day we have several classrooms that are looking for an extra box of Kleenex and our supply is dwindling. Any donations can be dropped off in the front office. Thank you for your help!
- We are collecting board games or card games for the library. If you see any on sale and would consider a donation, please bring them to the office.
Our school staff contact list is updated and available on the D15 website. Feel free to print it and keep it handy in the case you need to get in touch with any of our staff throughout the year.
Have a wonderful weekend!

1st Quarter Student Recognition
We recognized 7th and 8th grade students with the Wildcat of the Quarter award. These students demonstrated citizenship, hard work, leadership, great improvement, scholarship and creativity.
We recognized 7th and 8th grade students with the "One of Us" award. These students demonstrated the ability to make the classroom a better place. They bring positive energy, are creative, and share their unique gifts with the CS community.
We recognized 7th and 8th grade students with the "Level Up" award. These students demonstrated an improvement in any of the following categories: citizenship, hard work, work completion, leadership, positive choices, or effort.
Additionally, we have identified the students who have earned the following academic recognition during the 1st quarter.
Principal's Award (4.0 GPA)
High Honors (3.75-3.9 GPA)
Honor Roll (3.5-3.74 GPA)
Overall, we are SO PROUD of the great work our students have done in the 1st quarter! Keep it up, Wildcats!
Spectators at Away Sporting Events
We realize that the Junior High athletic events are fun to attend and we have enjoyed having spectators come to the games. If students choose to attend away games at Plum Grove, Sundling, or Winston Campus, it's expected that a parent comes with the students to the basketball game and stays the entire time.
The CHAMPS expectations for spectator behavior are the same at each school in our district. Please remember you are a representative of our school when visiting another school.
Students, from another school, who come in without a parent or guardian will not be permitted to attend the game.
