Health Updates with Nurse Melissa
Hi Parents!
We are so happy to have students back in the building this year! We need your help to keep students healthy and minimize having to quarantine students for COVID exposure. I ask you, if your child is sick (even if it’s just the sniffles), PLEASE keep them home and get them tested for COVID. Sometimes COVID symptoms are very mild in children and can appear to be “just the sniffles”, but we need to know for sure.
If your child is sick, there are several COVID testing sites in the area. ASD has partnered with Beacon which provides several options for testing outside of some of our schools. Here is a list of available locations:
COVID Testing Sites (please use attached QR code to register):
After registering, go to one of the following locations Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to be tested. These locations are for walk-up only. Please be prepared to be outside.
Testing Locations:
Abbott Loop Elementary
This site is next to the playground. 8427 Lake Otis Pkwy, Anchorage, AK 99507
North Star Elementary School
This site is on the back side of the building.
605 W Fireweed Ln, Anchorage, AK 99503
William Tyson Elementary School
This site is on the back side of the building.
2801 Richmond Ave, Anchorage, AK 99508
Russian Jack Elementary School
This site is next to the bus drop off area.
4300 E 20th Ave, Anchorage, AK 99508
Chester Valley Elementary School
This site is next to the bus drop off area.
1751 Patterson St, Anchorage, AK 99504
Once you get your result, you can email it to me at morrissey_melissa@asdk12.org. To return to school after your child is sick, we need:
1. A copy of the negative COVID result sent to the nurse
2. The child’s symptoms to be improving, and
3. Them to have been fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication (Tylenol, Ibuprofen, etc).
Please feel free to call me at (907) 742-3901 with any questions and leave a message. I will be happy to get back to you! Thank you so much for your help with keeping our school healthy and open for learning

Assessment Information for Families
FastBridge
FastBridge is the ASD benchmark assessment for students in grades K-2 in reading and mathematics. Grades 3-6 may also use FastBridge as a progress monitoring tool. FastBridge utilizes curriculum-based measures and is used by schools as part of the ASD Comprehensive Assessment System to support informed instructional decisions.
FastBridge will only be administered in-person during the benchmark windows listed below
Fall 2021: September 7 - September 17
Winter 2021: November 29 - December 10
Spring 2022: March 14 - April 1

MAP Growth
MAP Growth is the ASD benchmark assessment for students in grades 3-9 in reading and mathematics. Grades 10-12 also take MAP Growth as part of Tier II and Tier III reading and mathematics courses.
MAP Growth is an online assessment tool used for instructional purposes. MAP Growth is an adaptive assessment that provides each student with a personalized testing experience with data that speaks to their individual progress and growth in mathematics and reading. Practice tests and accommodations are available. MAP Growth will be administered in person during the benchmark windows for 2020-2021:
* Benchmark 1—September 27-October 8
* Benchmark 2—November 29-December 10
* Benchmark 3- April 18-April 29
MAP Growth practice tests are available to allow students the opportunity to become familiar with the types of questions and tools available on the actual MAP Grow assessments such as the highlighter and calculator. Practice tests are provided at practice.mapnwea.org and require login information (USERNAME: grow PASSWORD: grow) to access.
SAEBRS
This year, our school will be using a screener to look at school-wide systems of support for social emotional learning and behavior. This screener, much like our academic Universal Screeners (FastBridge and MAP Growth), will be completed with all students in the Fall (September), Winter (December) and Spring (April). Teachers will rate students relative to various behavioral risk factors. The assessment is called the Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener (SAEBRS). The tool will help teachers identify what additional structures they might need to have in place in their classrooms and as well as identifying students who may need additional supports to increase their academic and social emotional success. This screening is completed by teachers and will not take away from instructional time nor require input/answers from students. Should you have any questions about the use of this universal screener, please don’t hesitate to contact your principal.
