Pillar 1: Leadership Development
SASC Conference 2018
Our Georgia Delegates were excited to network amongst each other along with delegates from all over the Southeastern United States!
Here are what some of the students had to say about their experience at SASC:
"My first SASC was a blast, everyone there is so amazing. It’s great to see so many other students like myself striving for the same goals that I have and achieving them" - Zach Card (MVHS)
“It was an overall great experience. SASC has an amazing atmosphere and taught me numerous facts and models of what it means to be a leader and how to become a better leader in society" - Jacob Keenan (LHS)
"I learned the importance of connections and communication. I had the opportunity to be involved in a great conference where I learned the names of people that I will remember for a lifetime. I learned how to create friendships that I can use both later in life and in my pursuit of leadership" - Griffin Boykin (WCHS)
A Look Back at our District Rallies
The District 2 Rally was held last weekend on October 27 at the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology. Delegates heard from keynote speaker, Brad Scarberry, and created goodie bags for the Bert's Big Adventure Fairy Godparents. Leaders all across District 2 joined at GSMST for a day of "Learn. Lead. Lego." Thank you to District 2 Representatives, Sandra Perez and Jonas Baker for an incredible District Rally!

The District 5 Rally was held last weekend on October 27 at Houston County High School. Attendees were able "Explore their Inner Leader" by hearing from keynote speaker, Shaw Blackmon (a Representative in the Georgia House of Representatives), participating in team building games, and attending workshops. Delegates also contributed to our State Service Project by putting together coloring/autograph books for Bert's Kids' trip to Disney and goodie bags for the Fairy Godparents. Thank you to District 5 Representatives Maddie Key and Alyssa Lee for hosting a successful District Rally!

Pillar 2: Service
State Service Project- Bert's Big Adventure
Following the trip, Bert's Big Adventure also provides year-round support through other initiatives such as the Fairy Godparent Program and Reunion Adventure Program:
- The Fairy Godparent Volunteer Program supports the organization's families when a Bert's Big Adventure child is admitted to a partner hospital. The Fairy Godparent volunteers visit the children daily and provide magical moments during a trying time. For more information about the Fairy Godparent Program, watch the first video below.
- The Reunion Adventure Program is an attempt by the organization to further strengthen its established communities and friendships. These exclusive and unique events provide the families with year-round opportunities to enjoy more VIP experiences and intimate family time away from doctor visits and hospital stays.
For a better understanding of what this organization does for its families, watch the second video for a look-back on this year's Bert's Big Adventure Walt Disney Trip.

Spotlight on Service
Our new initiative, "Spotlight on Service" is an opportunity to highlight exciting, innovating, and successful service projects that various GASC member councils have introduced at their schools. The Spotlight on Service Showcase will feature various services that truly embody what it means to be a servant leader. This will give more service ideas to student councils across the state. This also gives councils the chance to show the state how great they really are!

Khushi Mehta is Junior at North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, Georgia. She currently serves as one of this year's Parliamentarians. Throughout her student career, Khushi's most notable accomplishments include being elected as GASC Parliamentarian, captaining the North Gwinnett Mock Trial team, being selected to perform at Carnegie Hall with a school orchestra group. Khushi says her favorite GASC Memory was attending the BLAST! Summer Camp this year. The camp was such a powerful journey of self-development, but for me, the most memorable aspect was the support I received from the other campers," Khushi says. "Throughout the weekend, we were all required to confront and share our insecurities, and the encouragement we received from the people around us was overwhelming and representative of how supportive GASC is as an organization. Not to mention, the friendships I formed this past summer are still a significant part of my everyday life," Khushi quotes.
School: Houston County High School High School
