Meaningful Ways to Celebrate MLK Day
Story Corps: Stories for MLK Day
This Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, deepen your understanding of the history of civil rights in America by listening to the voices of people who live it. Below is a collection of StoryCorps conversations in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and stories of those who carry the legacy of the civil rights movement with them.
Observed each year on the third Monday in January as “a day on, not a day off,” MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. AmeriCorps has been charged with leading this effort for the past quarter century.
AmeriCorps is collaborating with the Presidential Inaugural Committee on the MLK National Day of Service. Together we encourage you to engage in volunteer service in honor of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. If you are hosting a service project, please register it on the Presidential Inaugural website. Make a commitment to serve in your community on MLK Day and throughout 2021.
from The New York Times: Martin Luther King Jr. Day--9 Ways to Honor His Legacy
Marches and parades are on pause this year. But streamed events and exhibitions are still commemorating King’s achievements.
The Do's and Don'ts of Celebrating MLK Day
Writing in The Washington Post in 1983, Coretta Scott King provided a vision of how the holiday honoring her husband should be observed.

Virtual Letter Writing for Healthcare Staff
UCLA Volunteer Center -
Tuesday , Jan. 19, (1:00 pm – 2:00 pm PST)
Letters of Appreciation for Healthcare Staff. While most of us are trying our best to stay at home and practice social distancing measures, healthcare workers around the world are putting their own lives at risk to keep us safe. It is not only the doctors and nurses but also the therapists, technologists, those who make sure rooms and equipment are disinfected, and social workers who are doing their best to keep us safe. Please join us for this One Bus, One Cause as we will come together virtually to create letters or artwork that will be sent to healthcare staff to show our appreciation for their crucial work during this time.

PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) at CCMS
PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. It may sound familiar as it was part of the Back to School Night Presentation regarding PBIS at home .See attached video for a refresher. How to Use Positive Behavior Strategies at Home
CCMS has a team of people that have been meeting to discuss ways to increase student engagement and perceptions of our school. The group is guided by the drafted statement of purpose:
"CCMS is a diverse learning community dedicated to nurturing a safe, positive, and respectful environment that fosters leadership and self-advocacy."
The goals are to provide clarity on the PBIS systems currently in place for online learning and to increase student recognition (Shout-Outs, Panther of the Week, PRIDE Awards, etc.).
We believe that all students can learn and we (families, staff, and students) can learn from each other. If you have feedback for the PBIS Team, please complete this survey so that your input can be included.

We are also looking for a few parents to serve as a member on our CCMS PBIS team? Interested? Contact Julie Markussen, Assistant Principal and PBIS Team member
Thank you,
CCMS PBIS Team

Tutoring Opportunity For Students
From Logon2Learn:
Logon2learn is a tutoring service dedicated to helping children learn and excel during the current Covid-19 pandemic. Due to the students in Los Angeles County being forced into remote learning for most of 2020, and the foreseeable future, Logon2Learn was created to ensure children do not fall behind in class. All tutors are current high school students, which we believe makes them adept at peer tutoring other students. We get what you’re going through. And the best part about us- is that we are free! From student to student, Logon2Learn is here for you!
