Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 7th April 2017
Happy Easter
Our school hall was full of decorated eggs on Monday morning, all on the theme of 'Our Eggsellent School'. The Friends organised the competition, which Dean John was kind enough to judge. All prizes were sponsored by Hutchinson and Buchanan.
We were amazed by the talent and variety on show, and all the staff were flattered by the likenesses created. Thank you to everyone who organised or took part.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the Easter activities organised by the Friends at school. We had 100 entries for the egg decorating competition which were all eggsellent! Well done to all the children who entered and to our fantastic winners! Thank you to Dean John for judging and look out for a photo in next week's Gazette.
The Easter raffle was drawn this morning - we've raised £90 for school funds - brilliant! Thanks to our sponsors Hutchinson and Buchanan and Morrisons for sponsoring the Easter events, especially the Easter Egg Treasure Hunt.
Date for your diary - school book fair 25th-28th April. Volunteers welcome!
Happy Easter from the Friends.
Easter Service
On Tuesday Rev Dan from the Cathedral led a special service for Easter. Retelling the Easter story, he helped us to reflect on ourselves, the choices we make and how Jesus' death on the cross allows us all to live in hope.
We also welcomed Dean John into school on Friday to lead worship on the Easter story. He pulled out the winner of the Friends Easter raffle too, well done to Harry Brown in Year 1 who took home a large cuddly bunny and a very large chocolate egg!

Sporting Success
Representatives from our Year 3 and 4 classes participated in a gymnastics competition at St Wilfrid's School on Tuesday. We have spent a portion of our Sports Grant on gymnastic coaching this year, with Mandy training up the teachers to be able to lead gym lessons. This was obviously money well spent, as we brought home two winners' trophies! Well done to the children also, who have learnt their routines and tried their best. In addition, thank you to St. Wilfrid's for hosting and to the staff and parents who accompanied the children.
Also this week, a football tournament at Trinity Junior School. Miss Stephenson reported that she was particularly proud of how well our representatives worked as team.

dangerous parking
One of the issues raised at the parent forum was safer parking around school. It was pointed out that some parents are now parking in front of the gates which have to be closed to protect the children. Please note that the gates must be kept clear at all times for ease of access for the emergency services. We have been made aware that cars are being parked on the zig zag lines and speed bumps at the front of the school as well. In addition, some parents have been driving at speed along Cathedral Close.
We have reminded the children to keep safe and to be aware of all road safety rules. We have also thanked those that walk to school.
We have asked the local police and parking officers to step up patrols in our area to help protect the children.
Lent Challenge continues
After a short break when the Year 6 children were practising for SATS, we are back on track with our Lent challenges. Hopefully Wednesday's, 'Ask if you can help at school,' also continued to home!
Reading Raffle
One lucky child (or 5 if the class achieves 100%!) from every class in our weekly Reading Raffle chooses a book from our special selection to take home and keep (and read!). These books are provided both by school and The Friends to encourage reading throughout school. This week, Year 6 are back to winning ways, with 97% of children in their class reading 5 times or more this week (as noted by an adult in their reading journal).
