Jackson Jaguars ROAR 2021-2022
September 2021
Jackson Families,
What a great start to our school year! August flew by in a flash!
Masks-starting September 7th
This week, starting on September 7th, all D11 staff, elementary students, and guests are REQUIRED to wear masks while indoors. Please provide your child with not only a mask to wear throughout the day, but also an additional mask or two to keep in their backpack. While we have a few extras, we do not have enough to provide students with masks everyday.
Toys at School
We are starting to see students bringing toys to school. (Pop-Its are considered toys.) Please make sure that your child(ren) only bring school items such as technology, their daily planner, communication folder, etc. to and from school. We don't want anything to happen to their toys from home. While Jackson is not responsible for lost or stolen toys, we want to also help our students protect their belongings. Please make sure your child(ren) keeps all toys (including backpack charms) at home.
Illnesses
Thank you for continuing to keep your child(ren) at home if they develop cold symptoms. If you ever have a question about if you should bring them to school, please feel free to call the office for advice.
Don't forget that my monthly communication, The Jackson Jaguar ROAR, will come out on the first Sunday of every month with pictures, updates, important information, and school dates and events.
As always, if you still have some questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.
We are excited to see our Jaguar(s) on Tuesday (no school on Monday, September 6th)!
Thank you,
Sara Miller

NEW COVID-19 Protocols
As you are well aware, COVID continues to impact many of our daily routines. Last year, numerous procedures were in place to ensure a safe and clean learning environment. While we will be eliminating some of those practices, others will still be in place. Please know that our procedures can change quickly based on CDC and El Paso County Health requirements. As these changes happen, we will be sure to communicate them with you.
Mask Wearing-STARTING SEPTEMBER 7th:
- Masks are REQUIRED for any person riding public transportation, which includes our school buses. If your child rides the bus to or from school they MUST wear a mask, while on the bus.
- Masks are REQUIRED for all adults indoors for everyone regardless of vaccination status.
- PreK-5 Students are REQUIRED to wear masks while indoors.
Showing Symptoms:
- If a student or adult is showing symptoms of being ill, especially those that are consistent with COVID, they are highly encouraged to stay home.
- If symptoms are not resolved within 48 hours then the symptomatic person would be required to get a COVID test to return. If negative, and symptoms are getting better, they could return.
Positive or Presumed Positive:
- If someone tests positive for COVID-19 they will be required by public health to isolate for a minimum of 10 days.
- They may return to school on day 11 IF they do not have a fever and symptoms are improving. We know that not all symptoms may go away within the 10 day isolation window so we will work with families on what steps need to be taken.
- Families must report positive cases or exposure to positive cases to the school so that we can take appropriate actions within the building.
Counseling Corner with Mrs. Ruiz
I have started going into classrooms and teaching the Zones of Regulation. Classroom teachers are also discussing Zones of Regulations and encouraging/teaching students to take responsibility for their own feelings and behaviors.
Attached are graphics that represents what we are instructing. Please encourage your child to identify their feelings using the color zones and/or feelings words. (eg. I am mad. I am in the red zone) We are reiterating that ALL of our feelings are ok, but that they are not an excuse for hitting/hurting others with our words or actions. You can ask your child, "Ok, you are mad, what can you do?" Help them come up with positive outlets to their emotions like deep breathing, listening to calming music, drawing, relaxing in their bedroom. sports/exercise etc. We all can benefit from practicing these skills!
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need anything.
Please feel free to send me a dojo message, call me, or email me at leslie.ruiz@d11.org with any questions.

We have been busy in the library! By this time all students should have a device and a library book checked out.
- The Kinder-2nd graders can check out one book for one week.
- The 3rd-5th graders can check out two books for two weeks.
We are working on getting information on helping families get Internet connections at home for our school devices. Please let the office know if this is information you are going to need.

Music Notes from Mr. Miller
Music Classes are off to a great start this year! Each grade has learned several new songs and games already! Ask your child to sing some of those songs for you.
In addition, each grade has learned a lot about what makes music. Ask your child to explain the different parts of music and how those parts make music more interesting.

*Friday, March 11th at 6:30 pm – 3rd Grade & 3/4 Combo Recorder Concert (Howard, Morton, & Gardner)
Instrumental news:
Both the Band and Orchestra are off to a great beginning. The Band/Orchestra winter concert will be *Friday, December 10th. The spring concert will be *Friday, May 13th.
Thank you all for the encouragement that you give to your students in appreciating music.
Musically yours,
Mr. Miller
