Yarbrough Elementary - End of Year Newsletter

Dear YES Parents,

Thank you so much for sharing your children with us during the 2015-2016 school year. We had such a fabulous year and have many wonderful memories. I feel fortunate to work in an environment with dedicated teachers, determined students and supportive parents. I am already looking forward to the start of the next school year, so we can work to do even more with each day we are given at Y.E.S.

As we enter the summer, please help me by encouraging summer reading, math facts and journal writing. Schools often see a “summer slump” when students return in the fall because of the lack of school work in June and July. We have so much to learn next year that reducing the slump with daily reading, math, and writing would be greatly appreciated. If it helps, blame it on me. Please tell your child that Mr. Forster wants us to work a little bit each day, so we are ready for next year. Remind your student that we will celebrate their efforts in August by bringing the fire department to school and hosing the students down on a hot Friday afternoon. Please consider joining our Y.E.S. Family Book Club as a way of reading and engaging with your child (details below).

Please help me turn the summer slump into Summer Success at Y.E.S.

Have a great summer,

Pete Forster

P.T.O. President's Message

Wow! This has been such a great year for the YES PTO that I wanted to recap some of our highlights, but before I do, I would like to take a moment to thank the wonderful ladies who I served beside this year. This group of women gave tirelessly throughout the entire year with the goal of making this year the best possible for our students, teachers and administrators. They are creative, smart, savvy, kind, and selfless. I am grateful to call them all friends and have learned something from each of them this year that I will take with me into the future.

Order your School Supplies Online

School supplies for the 2016-2017 year may be ordered online at www.shopttkits.com; Account # 33634. The deadline to order is 6/10/2016.

Supply lists will soon be available on the Y.E.S. website if you want to purchase them on your own.

Leaders of the Month

The following students were recognized by their homerooms as Leaders of the Month for April. Congratulations!

Summer Reading and Math Cards

Every student received summer reading and math cards. Participation is optional, but those who complete their cards will have some fun in August. A completed reading card earns students a sprinkler party (an Auburn city fire truck comes and sprays their hose high in the air for us). Students with completed math cards are invited to a special themed lunch party. We hope these incentives will help our students stay motivated to read and practice math facts over the summer. If you misplace your cards, they will be available to print from the school website.

Summer Family Book Club

We are excited to announce that The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate Dicamillo is the book for Summer Family Book Club. Pick up a copy of the book (or even listen to the audio version on a summer road trip) and bond with the family over the trials and triumphs of the china rabbit, Edward. We will host two family book clubs (one at lunch time and one in the evening) in August after we return to school. We hope your family will find joy in sharing a great book together.

Nurse Notes with Nurse Julia

I will be available to discuss student health care needs and receive medications beginning August 3rd.

Please deliver forms and medications to school prior to the first day of school.

Have a safe and fun summer!
