LRC News
Authors Visit
The fifth graders enjoyed a visit from two local authors, Liesl Shurtliff, best known for her (Fairly) True Tales Series and Brianna Dumont, writer of the Changed History series. They shared with the fifth graders their writing process, how they research their books, and how students can use these skills in their own school work and everyday lives. The visit was courtesy of The Book Stall, an independent bookstore in Winnetka. Our generous PTA purchased a copy of both Thrilling Thieves: Liars, Cheats, Cons Who Changed History and Time Castaways: The Mona Lisa Key for each of the fifth grade classrooms and the library too. Thank you PTA for supporting our students’ reading!
Pumpkin Character Contest
Over 80 pumpkins were displayed in the library on Halloween. The school voted for 10 student created categories including most imaginative or creative, best hero or villain and best representation of a character. The winners were shared on the morning announcements and received student made “blue ribbons”.

Important Food Service Information
Please review this important food service information which includes the menu cycle and the cycle calendar.
Outdoor Recess Procedures
Please make sure your children are dressed appropriately for outdoor play. In cold weather boots, mittens or gloves, warm jackets, snow pants, hats and scarves are a must. If your child wears boots to school, please remember to send in shoes for them to use during physical education. The wind chill factor must be ten or below or it must be too wet or raining before we cancel outdoor recess. The children are out approximately 20 minutes. Please note that children must wear coats if temperatures are below 32°F.
We are often presented with requests for children to remain indoors at recess, generally because of allergies or as part of a recovery from illness. If it is necessary for your child to be indoors at recess, a note from the doctor will be required. We appreciate your support and cooperation with our recess procedure.
